Exploring Life & Business with Shara Eric Rostamlou of SER Accounting & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shara Eric Rostamlou.

Hi Shara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Tehran, Iran, into an Armenian family. My parents left the country for financial reasons, hoping to give my sister and me a better life. At 11, I moved to the United States. Everything was new—language, neighborhood, friends—but I focused on adapting and finding my way.

From a young age, I kept busy, taking on various jobs and responsibilities to help my family and support myself. Those experiences taught me the value of hard work, consistency, and learning through doing—lessons that still guide me today.

I studied economics and accounting at UCSB and later joined Ernst & Young, working in financial auditing. The work was demanding and detailed, giving me insight into how businesses operate, where potential risks and opportunities lie, and the importance of precise, organized financial processes.

Today, I’m the founding and managing partner at SER Accounting & Consulting, where I work directly with entrepreneurs and families across the country. I handle everything from bookkeeping to tax planning and filing, tailoring solutions to each client’s unique needs. The work isn’t just about numbers—it’s about helping clients feel organized, confident, and prepared to make informed financial decisions.

I take pride in doing this work in the country that gave me a chance at a new life. Serving families and businesses across the U.S. allows me to contribute to the growth and stability of the economy and communities that welcomed me.

Outside of work, I’m supported by family, friends, and my fiancée, who I’m marrying this year. My journey—from Tehran to the United States, through EY, to building SER Accounting & Consulting—has been shaped by steady effort, learning from experience, and the people who have guided me along the way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Growing up in a low-income household.

Moving to a new country at age 11.

Adjusting to a new language.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that steady effort and consistency matter more than luck or shortcuts. Growing up with limited resources, moving to a new country, and working multiple jobs taught me that success isn’t about titles or money—it’s about showing up, learning from experience, and taking practical steps every day. That lesson guides how I approach my work with clients: focusing on real results, clear strategies, and helping them feel confident in their financial decisions.
