Exploring Life & Business with Shakira Miller of Pink’s Silk Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakira Miller.

Hi Shakira, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After I graduated college, I began working in the corporate lifestyle and knew this was not for me. I then looked in what interested me the most! And beauty was it. So I went back to school to began my cosmetology journey. After that, I worked In a couple of salons and decided to branch off on my own. And it worked out great! We have been in business for a year, and it also works great with me being a professional model as well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been smooth. As a business owner, there is always a slow season. But that’s when my other career interest modeling came to play. And now as a business owner, I learned you need multiple sources of income. But why not have a different sources of income in your passionate job.

As you know, we’re big fans of Pink’s Silk Salon LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Of course, my business is a natural hair salon currently we are located in Upstate NY, but in the future looking to expand in Los Angeles, California. As I am looking to relocate to my dream location in the future. We specialize in natural hair care & silk presses & blonde pixies! I am known for getting the natural hair straight with no chemicals. And also bleaching blonde pixies to clients who have a hard time achieving platinum blonde. I always say they love my platinum blonde as an inspiration. So I turn them into me lol. What sets me away from others is that I am a professional model and a hairstylist. Who wouldn’t want to book a professional model. As their stylist, I inspire and encourage others to do their dream look with no hesitation. I am most proud of that we finally made it to a year! And hopefully expanding to the west coast in due time for the future! I want everyone to know that I provide a nice comfortable relaxing environment. Where you feel welcomed & leave with confidence!

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I took a major risk with opening a business not knowing how it was going to go, or how it was going to last! But for being open for a year so far I’ll say I’m doing great! My next risk goal is expanding my business in bigger cities. Getting a big name for my business.

Pricing:

  • Pixie Blonde starts at $100
  • Silk presses & blow outs starts at $85
