Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Louise Rector.
Hi Sarah Louise, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I would say I’ve gotten to where I am today by working really hard! I’ve always been someone that has been active from a very young age, like from the first day my mum took me to ballet class at the age of three!
I trained and worked professionally as a dancer throughout my early years and then progressing with it and turning it into a career with modeling also being a big part of my life and success.
I’ve always said that dance gave me the discipline and work ethic of working hard as well as maintaining a healthy strong physique especially when it comes to posture and mobility! These are all of the things I try to implement into my fitness app The SLR Life.
My fitness career started in 2016 when I took my love of going to group fitness classes and turning it into a profession, its where I got the buzz of “performing” as well as helping others feel good about their bodies and enjoying fitness with my sold out classes and events with ModelFIT a boutique fitness studio that was a new studio in West Hollywood. This was the start of a lot of amazing private clients (and yes some celebrities), networking and connecting with others in the health and wellness space, as well as my early career in the virtual fitness world thanks to DailyOM for hosting my fitness courses selling over hundreds of thousands of them!!!
Living in Los Angeles was never planned or even a dream of mine, I’m a girl from the north part of England but had lived in London for 15 years. Then on my first ever trip to “Hollywood” I ended up meeting the “love of my life”…a gorgeous handsome American actor and the rest is history! I’ve been living in LA for seven years with my husband (yes the one I met on my trip, after a year of long-distance and going wild and getting married….). We have two gorgeous and very fun French bulldogs living quite the “California dream”.
My passion for taking care of the body from workouts, beauty products I use to learning different ways that help you feel confident is how I love to encourage any followers on social media and subscribers of The SLR Life.
My platform is constantly growing, and I’m always full of ideas to help everyone stay moving and happy!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think any fitness professional at the beginning can agree that it can take a toll on the body as well as the mind too. You are constantly showing up for others, teaching so many fitness classes, keeping yourself and others motivated, moving your body not just for 1 hour a day but for many hours each day. I remember back in 2018, as an already slim female but always maintaining a healthy strong physique my lifestyle changed a little I was extremely overly busy and was trying the vegan diet (I’m not a diet type of person but my husband was intrigued by it so it was easier for me to do it since I was the one mainly cooking up a storm in the kitchen lol!) this along with my schedule of teaching at least 10 group fitness classes a week plus other fitness bookings had me exhausted and a lot “slimmer” than I had ever been. It can be challenging making sure you concentrate on your own health and show up for yourself first so that you can be the best for others and that is definitely where I have been for the last few years since I started my app.
We’ve been impressed with The SLR Life, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m all things fitness and helping others move their body. I would say I specialize in perfecting your posture, adding more mobility into the functionality of your body as well as targeting the whole body with a sculpting and strengthening sensation in shorter workout time frames.
The SLR Life app has lots of different sections where you can choose either time frame of workout, targeting the abs todays, different equipment used like a pilates ring/ankle weights/stepper or even no equipment and so much more.
I want to make working out an easy decision and not to feel like a chore…I have over 250 + on-demand workout videos to choose from and every Monday a new video drops so the library is always growing. If you are someone that needs an extra bit of accountability, I highly recommend the program section that has workout plans already chosen for you eg. 7 days Sculpt effect, 10 days cardio challenge, 5 days stronger core, etc….
I also add a Zoom workout to the platform too so always keep an eye out for that, its always so fun to get to know others on the live, plus you get to see me in my home taking you through a live class and most likely the pups will make an appearance too! I also host a Body Toning class at a gorgeous ocean-fronted wellness space in Malibu called Rafi Lounge as well as private classes and private training in the Los Angeles area.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the world of fitness is constantly growing and I hope to take The SLR Life with it. With platforms like social media, fitness is being more and more encouraged and overall health being focused on. I hope with this, the need for movement to help with not only the physical side of things but with mental health too, that this will have an even bigger audience using fitness experts to guide them into a happier healthier lifestyle.
