Exploring Life & Business with Pattharavadee (Dee) Sumartra of Burosu Ramen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pattharavadee (Dee) Sumartra.

Hi Pattharavadee (Dee), can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Since 2009, I have been working in the restaurant industry.
I’ve always loved providing great service, meeting different people, and sharing experiences with them. Building relationships with my customers brings me passion on each day.

Over the years, I’ve gained experience in every position. It took me 11 years to finally open my own dream restaurant. Burosu Ramen in the heart of Studio city.

While COVID was a difficult time for many, for me, it marked the beginning of something beautiful.
I poured all my determination into creating this place — a restaurant filled with love, warmth, and good vibes. Every dish is crafted with care and heart.

Every time a customer smiles and enjoys the atmosphere, my heart feels full. This is more than just a business — it’s a cozy home full of friends and family.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During COVID, my restaurant faced one of the biggest challenges of its existence and so did I. The economic crisis hit us hard. There were moments when survival seemed nearly impossible. But through it all, I realized something important: I used every skill, every bit of experience, and all the strength I had to keep going. I pushed myself to the limit, adapting, fighting, and doing whatever it took to stay open and continue serving my community. The storm isn’t over yet, but I’m still standing. And for that, I’m truly proud.

We’ve been impressed with Burosu Ramen, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Aside from providing great service and taking care of my customers, I also manage all aspects of my restaurant’s branding and marketing. I handle Burosu ramen social media, design all print materials, and maintain both our online and offline presence. I create content for special occasions, especially highlighting our food and unique offerings. It’s a lot of work, but it allows me to express my creativity and stay closely connected to our customers

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Our one-stop-shop ramen restaurant in Studio City has been proudly serving the community for almost five years. Along the way, we’ve faced many turning points and had to make some tough decisions. We’ve experienced setbacks, but each challenge has helped us grow and improve in meaningful ways.

What continues to amaze and inspire us is the support we’ve received from our loyal customers, food bloggers, and even a few secret celebrities. Word of mouth has played a huge role in our survival—some moments have gone viral, and others have led to exciting features on shows. These unexpected surprises keep my passion for this place alive every single day.

That’s why, for us, building strong, genuine relationships with our customers will always be our top priority.
