Today we’d like to introduce you to Milica Krstic.
Hi Milica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a psychologist and psychotherapist, Milica Krstic helps entrepreneurs locate and create a sense of peace and balance around and within themselves. She carries multiple certifications in psychology, psychotherapy, and self-development from Singidunum University, The University of Sheffield, Integrative Body-oriented psychotherapy center, and at the moment, she is a Ph.D. student at UCAM University in Spain. Based on proven methods deriving from her research and experience, Milica’s focus is now directed toward helping clients create healthier relationships with themselves. Through 1:1 guidance, she helps entrepreneurs identify, understand, and shift their body, mind, soul, emotions, and overall lifestyle with aim of reducing unhealthy behavioral patterns including anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome, overthinking, and more.
In 2020, when the pandemic started, seven of my friends attempted suicide, and two of the seven committed suicide sometime in the summer of the same year. I came up with the idea of creating a platform where psychotherapists will provide free psychotherapy sessions to people who are financially unable to pay for psychotherapy. The idea was slowly prepared and developed so that in April 2022 the Siguran Prostor (meaning: Safe Space) platform started operating and in 7 months over 3000 people received help. Until recently, the platform was only available for users from the Balkans, but the idea of free psychotherapy spread quickly, so a large number of fellow psychotherapists (65 at the moment) worldwide came forward to support the idea. The platform Siguran Prostor is available, in addition to Serbo-Croatian, in Macedonian, Turkish, English, German, Ukrainian and Russian language. The mission of the Siguran Prostor platform is to reduce anxiety, depression, and the number of suicides.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road was interesting and challenging and still, it is. But I find it inspiring and interesting. Every day I am meeting new kind people who are willing to help for free to give away their time and expertise. This project makes me feel alive and happy because I know that every day someone made a healthier decision, felt at least a little better, or found again a reason to stay alive and care about him or herself. The biggest struggle is, in my opinion, to understand that every person is only responsible for him/herself, and sometimes as psychologists and psychotherapists, we feel like we are responsible for everyone. We are here to provide help, support, empathy, listening, understanding, acceptance…a safe space. Also, there is one more struggle to spread the word about this platform in order to find more people who are willing to provide psychotherapy for free.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Siguran Prostor, a non-profit online platform, provides free online psychotherapy sessions to people who are not able to afford psychotherapy. So far, 65 psychotherapists provided more than 3000 free online psychotherapy sessions. Three thousand users have received help in English, Turkish, German, Ukrainian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, and Macedonian language.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, I learned a lesson that mental health should be free, not just affordable, but free. So many people are dealing with depression and anxiety due to isolation and fear, and also people were re-traumatized because of the pandemic. The pandemic and the experience of losing my friends due to depression caused by isolation and fear motivated me to create the platform Siguran Prostor.
