Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Certainly! My journey began in 2009 when I moved to Los Angeles after completing my training in general surgery. Surgery has always been a passion of mine since a young age. I was fascinated by the human body as a complex, intricate system, both externally and internally. The precision and problem-solving inherent in surgery appealed to my analytical mind, while the potential to make a tangible difference in someone’s life was incredibly motivating.
However, alongside my love for surgery, I had a deep-seated passion for aesthetics. I wanted to carve a path that gave me the best of both worlds. During my years in medical school and residency, I realized that while cosmetic surgery offers remarkable results, there was a growing demand for less invasive, more natural-looking enhancements. The evolution of non-surgical techniques presented an opportunity to help patients achieve their aesthetic goals with minimal downtime and quicker recovery.
I was drawn to the artistry and science of enhancing natural beauty and the ability to boost patients’ confidence through subtle, yet impactful treatments. I started by performing injectable treatments like Botox and fillers. Word of mouth quickly grew my practice, and soon there was a demand for a variety of treatments, including device-based ones.
At the same time, I was disheartened by the direction our industry was headed. The rise of assembly line-type “medical spas,” where patients were not seen by physicians and often treated improperly, left many with less-than-desirable results and sometimes devastating complications. This motivated me to establish the Z Center for Cosmetic Health.
My vision was to create a comprehensive, boutique-like wellness space offering a personalized approach to beauty and well-being. I wanted to build a team of highly skilled professionals dedicated to providing personalized care and exceptional results, with me personally involved in every patient’s treatment plan. By combining medical expertise with a luxurious, spa-like environment, I aimed to redefine the aesthetic treatment experience. We treat our patients like family, and many have become like family to us over the years, staying extremely loyal despite the oversaturation of medical spas in the area.
This journey has been incredibly fulfilling. Seeing the positive impact on my patients’ lives and their confidence grow is truly rewarding. I’m excited to continue evolving in this field and providing top-notch care to my community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think there’s ever such a thing as a smooth road. Everyone faces bumps and obstacles along the way. When I moved to Los Angeles from another state, I started with zero patients in a highly competitive field. If that’s not stress-provoking, then I don’t know what is! It’s not like people are busting down your door to fill up your schedule on day one. But I was confident in my abilities and the plan I had laid out for myself and the business.
Having a great support system helped immensely. My family, friends, and mentors provided the encouragement and support I needed to stay focused and driven. But, you can never get too comfortable. We were growing at an amazing pace, and then COVID-19 hit, shutting us down for three months. That experience put so many things into perspective, like the importance of resilience and adaptability.
Today, we face different challenges with inflation, the economy, the healthcare and political landscape, and the complete lack of regulation in our industry that’s allowing the rise of some shady practices. These factors create an unpredictable environment that requires constant vigilance and innovation.
Like all aspects of life, perseverance and adaptability are key. Despite the hurdles, my passion for providing high-quality, personalized care keeps me motivated. Each challenge has made me stronger and more determined to offer the best possible experience for my patients.

Brand-wise, I am incredibly proud of the trust and loyalty we’ve built over the years. Our patients appreciate our meticulous approach and the lasting relationships we form. Despite the oversaturation of medical spas in the area, we’ve maintained a loyal clientele who value our dedication to quality and personalized service.
