Exploring Life & Business with Matthew Kaz, Jason Podkulski of NNL Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Kaz, Jason Podkulski

Hi Matthew Kaz, Jason Podkulski, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We might in High School in a music class and instantly became friends and have been ever since.

After, we each went our separate ways, playing in different bands and touring across the country. During that time, the two of us started to get into song writing, production, and recording separately. Each of us honed our musical craft for many years, and learned how to produce and record music ourselves.

During the summer of 2020, Matt decided to leave NYC and travel the country in a van. Eventually he met up with Jay in Los Angeles. We packed up all of Jay’s studio, traveled to Joshua tree for a couple of weeks, and recorded an album. At that moment, we knew that we had to open our own studio in LA and pursue music together.

In September of 2021 Matt moved to LA and on New Years the two made a goal to open up a studio by March. We were able to sign a lease for our Melrose based studio on January 15th and haven’t looked back.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s always tough to stand out in an oversaturated Industry. We have been fortunate that the clients/artists we have worked with along the way have become repeat customers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are two producers that care about every project we work on. We’ve been told that we offer a safe and comfortable environment to write, and record in, and we pride ourselves on that. When an artist walks through our doors, we make them feel like we’ve known them forever. That is what we are most proud of.

We’re also proud of the sounds we can create. We combine analog equipment with modern production resulting in some unique and fun sounds. Songwriting and Lyricism are high priorities as well, and between the two of us, we can play most instruments.

At NNL Studios, we provide guidance and care to each song we create. Above all, we love it, and have fun with every artist we work with.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
We listen to our artists. Everyone is different and we really try to bring the best out of them. Our success not only based on our professionalism, but it is based on our personalities and the vibe we create.
