Today we’d like to introduce you to Kershona Mayo.
Hi Kershona, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with music in high school, not just as a fan, but as someone who became obsessed with the stories behind the songs and the people who created them. I knew early on that I wanted to work in music and help artists I believed in find their audience. In college, I dove in headfirst, working anywhere I could, a recording studio, a record label, even a local record store, immersing myself in every layer of the industry.
In 2008, I helped create Make Music Pasadena, a milestone moment in my career. The free festival brought hundreds of live performances to the streets and venues of Pasadena and grew to over 50,000 attendees. I had the opportunity to book artists like Grimes, Grouplove, Natalia Lafourcade, Warpaint, and Best Coast, giving both major names and emerging talent a powerful platform. The festival also generated over $1 million in revenue for the city, proving just how transformative music can be for a community.
After bands and artists began approaching me to run independent publicity campaigns, I launched Mora May Agency in 2013. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of artists, from platinum-selling acts to rising voices, leading digital PR campaigns across genres and championing music that deserves to be heard.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running your own business is both challenging and incredibly rewarding. You’re constantly working, always on call, and rarely have the luxury of completely unplugging. Even when I travel, my laptop comes with me so I can stay connected and support my clients in real time. Finding balance isn’t easy, but I’ve learned that prioritizing my health is essential, not optional. Exercise and sleep are non-negotiable for me; they keep me grounded, focused, and ready to show up fully for my work and my clients.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say to reach out and ask maybe one or two questions to a mentor. People in general do want to help but are often busy so you don’t want to take too much of their time. Make it an easy ask but one that is rewarding for both yourself and the person to whom you are seeking advice from.
