Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorgelina Migliozzi. She and her team shared their story with us below:
Originally from Argentina, Jorgelina (“Giorgie”) Migliozzi is a licensed architect in California, USA and Argentina. Giorgie received her Architectural Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mendoza, Architecture Faculty. Upon moving to California in 2002 she began studying Interior Design and to follow a direct path to her Architectural License. Giorgie founded Migliozzi Architecture with the vision of creating a firm that focuses on customer communication and the ability to listen to the client’s spacial and style requirements.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As an architect from Argentina working in California, I faced significant challenges due to cultural differences and language barriers. Overcoming language barriers and cultural differences also required me to embrace diversity and develop strong communication skills. The building codes and regulations in California were also different from what I was accustomed to, which required me to adapt my designs accordingly. Finding clients and establishing a network in a new country was also a challenge, as it required building trust and establishing credibility in a new market.
Additionally, navigating the complex legal and bureaucratic processes involved in obtaining permits and licenses was a significant obstacle to overcome. The competitive nature of the industry in California also required me to stay current and relevant in order to remain competitive in the market. Establishing a work-life balance and managing stress was also a challenge, as the demanding nature of the work often required long hours and intense focus.
