Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Anoraj.
Jesse, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My path into massage therapy began with a curiosity about the human body, movement, and how people experience pain. Before entering clinical training, I had already spent many years practicing Thai massage as a bodyworker. That experience showed me I could help people, but it also made me realize that, with the right education, I could support them in a deeper, more holistic, and more effective way.
I trained in Los Angeles at the National Holistic Institute, where I completed the Advanced Neuromuscular Therapist and Health Educator program, a 1,250-hour clinical training, well beyond California’s standard educational requirements for massage therapists. The program emphasized neuromuscular therapy, sports massage, pain management, anatomy, and assessment. Early in my career, I worked in wellness, physical therapy, and chiropractic settings, which built a strong foundation in injury care, chronic pain, and functional movement.
To deepen my skills and stay connected to my roots, I later traveled to Thailand and completed a 390-hour Thai massage teacher-training program at ITM – International Massage Training School in Chiang Mai. That experience continues to shape my work today, allowing me to blend Eastern bodywork traditions with Western clinical techniques and modern pain science.
I began a small private practice in 2019 while working part-time in various settings. In 2022, I transitioned into a full-time sole practitioner and formally built Artisan Neuromuscular & Sports Massage Therapy in Los Angeles. With over 15 years of Thai bodywork experience and more than 7 years of clinical massage practice, I now work one-on-one with clients in a focused, private setting. My goal is simple: to help people feel better, move better, and build resilience through thoughtful, personalized massage therapy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Building a massage practice takes time, patience, and trust in the process.
One of the biggest challenges came during the COVID-19 pandemic in Los Angeles. Like many hands-on practitioners, I was forced to close my private massage practice and stop providing care for several months. That pause was difficult, both personally and professionally.
When massage services were later allowed under medical guidelines, I was able to return to work as a healthcare provider in a clinical setting, offering prescribed medical massage. During that time, I worked with people experiencing a wide range of health conditions and chronic pain. It was a demanding period, but it deepened my clinical experience and reinforced the importance of thoughtful, compassionate care.
Beyond that, balancing work across different settings, managing physical demands, and learning to set boundaries were ongoing challenges. I also had to help clients understand that massage therapy isn’t a quick fix; real change takes consistency, movement, and patience.
Those challenges shaped how I practice today. They taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of focusing on long-term outcomes rather than short-term relief.
We’ve been impressed with Artisan Neuromuscular & Sports Massage Therapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

The practice is dedicated to helping individuals feel better in their bodies so they can return to the activities they love.
I work one-on-one with clients who are dealing with chronic pain, injuries, stress-related tension, and movement limitations.
My services include:
Neuromuscular therapy,
Sports massage,
Trigger points work,

Thai Massage
and integrated therapeutic bodywork,
all tailored to the individual’s needs. The approach I take is evidence-informed and outcome-based, focusing on both the physical body and the nervous system.
What sets my practice apart is the combination of advanced clinical training and years of Thai bodywork experience. Sessions are not routine or rushed; they are guided by the body’s responses in the moment, palpation skill and assessment. I take pride in creating an environment where clients feel listened to, supported, and safe to move again. My goal is simple: to help people feel better, move better, and build resilience. Practice in Los Angeles focused on helping people feel better in their bodies so they can return to the activities they enjoy.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is helping people feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies. When someone moves with less fear, sleeps better, or realizes they’re more capable than they thought, that’s deeply meaningful to me.
I’m a lifelong learner and an anatomy enthusiast who enjoys reading scientific literature and staying curious about how the body works. Outside the treatment room, I love exploring new restaurants around Los Angeles, cooking, especially Thai food, and photography. I also find peace in hiking, stretching, mobility training, taking photos, and caring for my cactus collection. Those simple routines help me stay grounded and balanced.
Professionally, I joined the California Massage Championships to grow, learn, and connect with others in the field.
I was grateful to receive:
2nd Place Overall
Gold Medals in Sports Massage
Gold Medals in Freestyle Eastern Massage.
I also serve as Vice President of the Nuad Thai & Spa Association of America and Thai Massage Instructor, contributing to education and the preservation of Thai massage traditions while supporting the professional community in the USA.
