Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We all encounter struggles, whether it’s in our professional or personal lives; life is not a point A to point b event. To me, when I reflect back on impactful moments in my life, it is the way that I have persevered from what seemed to be dead end moments that I am most proud of. One of the harshest reality checks that I experienced was acknowledging that the career path I was bred to pursue was not what I wanted.

When my mother became terminally ill, I re-routed my career and jumped into a different sector to be closer to home. That opportunity to jump into tech is what afforded me to be closer to family and to have more autonomy to explore other passions that I would not have been able to explore following my previous career path. If I could go back and change things, I wouldn’t because those twists and turns have molded me into the woman I am and will become. It is okay to start over at any age. What is not okay is staying in a situation that makes you fundamentally unhappy.

As you know, we’re big fans of Deeelicious Scents and Life Insurance. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I have always loved entrepreneurship and received my first dose during my time at USC. I was working at a wealth management start-up at the time and was an integral part of the firm’s business development. As time went on, and I moved on to other sectors in my career, I wanted to start my own business.

I created Deeelicious Scents in honor of my mother. She was an extremely talented woman and when she passed, I dedicated time to do things she liked to do. During the winter of 2021, I decided I wanted to make homemade gifts for my family and close friends—something that was reminiscent of her spirit. Then it dawned on me that she made candles! I researched materials, tested and perfected various scent profiles, and gifted them. I received awesome reviews and decided to pilot a small batch on Instagram. The rest is history, and Deeelicious Scents was officially born in April 2022. Every Deeelicious Scents Candle is handmade and is one of many ways my mother’s light and legacy continues on in this world.

During this time, I also acquired my life insurance license to help protect families and ensure they have proper financial coverage. I have experienced this firsthand with the loss of my mother, and I feel compelled to spread education about the benefits of life insurance for families to retain their lifestyle, generate wealth, and grow their financial houses. As a second-generation Latina, it is my purpose to ensure knowledge is provided back to our community and provide an even playing field for all.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Attending an elementary school where my mom was a 2nd-grade teacher is a very fond memory of mine. My Mom was extremely loved and valued by everyone in the community, as she exemplified what it is to serve. She not only was an amazing teacher, but she also placed a major emphasis on her students’ families, oftentimes writing letters for parents establishing citizenship, lending an ear to listen, donating goods to families in need, and organizing cultural school events. She was not only my mom but my teacher in so many aspects, including professionally. I learned how to “manage it all” by her example.
