Hi Dalya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My lifelong fascination with handbags began in childhood, a constant companion wherever I went. You would never catch me leaving the house without a bag, pouch or multiples of both stuffed into one another.
This passion evolved into a deep expertise, making me the trusted handbag advisor for friends and family. I instinctively knew the right bag, the right time, and the crucial details for a significant designer investment.
While I always dreamed of sharing this knowledge and helping more people, it took an unexpected challenge to spark action. In September 2023, a friend playfully dared me to abstain from handbag purchases until January 2025. Despite my initial disbelief – I’d never gone six months without a new bag – I accepted, albeit with a crucial ‘Hermès exception’ clause as no one says no to a Birkin or Kelly offer!
Six months in, my willpower was holding strong (mostly), though my online shopping cart looked like a handbag hoarder’s dream. This period of restraint ignited a new purpose: to channel my expertise into helping others navigate the overwhelming world of handbags. Recognizing the widespread need for curated guidance, I launched The Handbag Pursuit, empowering individuals to confidently find their perfect bag.
Now, approaching a year, The Handbag Pursuit has brought so much happiness into my life, helping others discover and grow their handbag collections. I truly wonder why I didn’t do this years ago!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth road? Absolutely not! If I had to sum it up in one word, it’d be: ‘Consistency!’ Turns out, sharing my handbag passion on social media is a very time consuming, to say the least. I was a pro at consuming content, but creating it? That was a whole different ballgame. Branding, reels, Canva, CapCut, web design, lighting, videography… it feels like trying to drink from a firehose! But, looking back each month, I’m genuinely amazed by the progress. From technical skills to newfound confidence behind the camera, I’ve learned to celebrate every little win.
