Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Porschatis.
Hi Cassie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Utah, but I always felt like I wanted something bigger for my life. Eventually, I took a chance on myself and moved to California without really knowing exactly where that decision would lead me.
Within my first year here, I enrolled in esthetician school. At that time, I didn’t have some huge plan or dream of owing a business. I had struggled with acne myself and thought, why not? But as I went through school, learned more about skin, and was finally able to clear my own acne, something clicked. I developed a genuine passion for helping other people feel confident in their skin too.
After school, I worked for several different companies and took every opportunity I could to learn, train and grow. Eventually an opportunity came along to branch out on my own. Starting a business was never something I had pictured for myself, but once again, I thought, why not? I told myself I would give it six months and see what happened.
Six months turned into years.
I stayed consistent, continued educating myself, built relationships with my clients, and slowly grew my clientele and my business. Today I’ve built a successful practice in Claremont, California where I’ve been for over seven years.
Looking back, I feel incredibly grateful for where taking those chances led me. What started with my own struggle with acne became something so much bigger than skincare. I love helping people, giving advice, listening, educating, and creating a safe space where both women and men can feel comfortable and supported.
For me, skincare has always been about more than what we see in the mirror. It’s about confidence, connection, and helping people feel good in the skin they’re in. I never set out with a perfect plan to build a business, I just kept saying “why not?” kept showing up, and kept growing. And somehow, that turned into a career and community I’m incredibly proud of.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Starting something on your own comes with a lot of uncertainty, sacrifice and those constant “what if this doesn’t work?” moments.
For years, I worked two jobs while building my business because I wasn’t in a position to fully rely on it yet. I started my business in a salon in Ontario before eventually making the move to Claremont, and with every transition came new challenges, changes, and periods of having to rebuild and trust the process.
Then COVID happened, which brought an entirely new level of uncertainty. Like so many small business owners, I remember wondering “Am I actually going to make it through this?” I couldn’t physically see my clients, so I had to get creative. I did product drop offs for clients, stayed connected with them however I could, and did everything in my power to keep learning and keep my business moving forward.
After COVID I was finally able to take the leap and go full-time, which made everything I had worked toward feel that much more meaningful.
There have been plenty of ups and downs along the way, and even now, owing a business means constantly adapting. But one of the biggest things I’ve learned is that mindset really is everything. I’ve tried to focus less on “What if it doesn’t work out?” and more on “I will figure it out.”
I think that mentality, staying consistent, being willing to adapt, and continuing to show up even when I didn’t know exactly what was going to happen next, is a huge part of what got me where I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Skin Control?
Skin Control is a skincare studio specializing in acne, anti-aging and overall skin health. I offer customized facial treatments, chemical peels, cold plasma, microdermabrasion treatments, waxing services and personalized skincare guidance based on each clients individual needs and goals.
What I believe sets Skin Control apart goes beyond the treatments themselves. I’ve always wanted my space to feel like somewhere you can come in, mentally disconnect from everything happening outside and feel completely comfortable being yourself. My clients know they can talk to me, vent, laugh, ask questions or simply relax and say nothing at all. I want people to leave feeling better than when they walked in, not only about their skin but about themselves.
Positivity has also become a huge part of my brand. I’m big on positive quotes, self talk, encouragement and reminding people that healthy skin is a process. Skin isn’t perfect all the time, and neither are we. I want Skin Control to be a place where skincare and a positive mindset come together.
Giving back to my community is also really important to me. Whether it’s supporting causes like breast cancer awareness during October or finding other ways to give back throughout the year, I want my business to stand for something beyond the services I provide.
Brand wise I’m most proud that Skin Conrol genuinely feels like an extension of who I am. It’s education, results, positivity, connection and a safe space all wrapped into one. Of course I want to help people achieve healthier skin, but more than anything I want people to feel seen, supported and a little more confident when they leave my treatment room.
That’s what I want people to know about Skin Control: Come for the skin, Stay for the connection.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost, my family deserves so much credit. They supported me when I made the decision to leave Utah, move to California and eventually take the leap into starting my own business. Having people believe in you while you’re still figuring things out for yourself means more than I can put into words.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my friends who let me practice on them, try new products and treatments and supported every new idea along the way. And honestly, I give credit to the people who have been part of different chapters in my life too. Whether friendships or relationships, so many people have encouraged me, challenged me, supported my business, given me creative ideas, or pushed me to grow into the person and business owner I am today.
My clients deserve a huge amount of credit as well. Some have trusted me and followed me since the very beginning, through different locations, different seasons of my. business and a lot of growth. There is something really special about knowing someone continues to choose you and trust you with not only their skin, but often pieces of their life as well. I truly wouldn’t have Skin Control without them.
And lastly, my mentor, Sonny, who has taken me under her wing, continues to educate me, keeps me in the loop within the industry, and pushes me to keep learning and becoming better at what I do.
I may be a solo business owner, but I definitely didn’t get here alone. There have been so many people behind the scenes cheering me on, believing in me, teaching me, trusting me and helping shape different parts of this journey. I will always be grateful for that.
