Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Castano.
Hi Becky, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Journey into Chinese Medicine
It all began when I was 15 and struggling with dysmenorrhea—painful periods that disrupted my daily life. In search of relief, I tried acupuncture, and it changed everything. Not only did it ease my cramps, but it also helped with anxiety, sports injuries, and overall wellness. It was a turning point.
Soon after, I began working as a receptionist at my acupuncturist’s clinic. Over the next three years, I witnessed countless cases of healing—transformations that felt nothing short of miraculous. Watching lives improve every day sparked something deep within me. I loved the approach, the philosophy, and the way healing was viewed as a whole-person journey.
From a young age, I had dreamed of becoming a Nurse Midwife. At 19, I became a doula, eager to support women through birth. But I quickly realized that the conventional medical system didn’t align with how I wanted to work—I value autonomy and creativity in how I care for others.
Eventually, I made the life-changing decision to pursue graduate studies at Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I’m so grateful I followed that path.
Today, I’m a licensed acupuncturist, wife, and mother of four, and the proud owner of a private practice in Westlake Village, California. I’m honored to support my community through the same medicine that once transformed my own life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My Journey of Resilience, Leadership, and Healing
I am the first in my family of six to graduate from high school and pursue a graduate education. The path was far from easy—navigating private student loan debt and the high cost of living in Los Angeles while attending graduate school was a significant challenge. During my second year, I became pregnant with my first child, and just 18 months later, welcomed my third. Despite these life-changing events, I remained determined and became the first graduate student in my cohort to complete the program on time—within four years.
After graduation, we moved to Texas, where I built a private practice from the ground up. Just as we began to settle, my husband suffered a stroke. This event marked a profound turning point in our lives. We made the difficult decision to move back to California, where I became the sole income earner, raised our children, and once again started over—both personally and professionally.
In navigating my husband’s recovery, I turned to holistic and cash-based medical modalities. The transformation I witnessed through these alternative therapies deepened my belief in integrative healing and inspired my ongoing work. Our family’s journey is one of resilience, resourcefulness, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my favorite memories as a 9 year old was witnessing natural water birth child birth from my sister. Gardening with my grandparents rasberries and fruit tree’s. Camping, hiking, swimming, bodysurfing in the ocean, sunsets and waterpolo. I also was raised in a christian home with a set of strong morals and community.
