Exploring Life & Business with Andrea Serrato of Jewel Glow Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Serrato.

Hi Andrea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has never followed one straight path. I have always been a creative and deeply intuitive person with a love for singing, dance, art, fashion, culture, and simply experiencing the beauty of being alive. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Gender, Ethnic and Multicultural Studies with a minor in Digital Media, which deepened my appreciation for people’s stories, identities, and the many ways we express who we are.

For the past ten years, I have worked as a professional Tarot reader and intuitive advisor, helping people find clarity, confidence, and direction during important moments in their lives. That work taught me how powerful it can be when someone feels truly seen and understood.

My lifelong love of fashion and color eventually led me to become a certified color analyst and establish Jewel Glow Studio. Through personal color analysis, I help people discover the colors that naturally harmonize with their complexion and bring their presence to life. To me, color analysis is about so much more than clothing. It is a form of self-discovery that can help someone feel more confident, intentional, and connected to themselves.

I am also passionate about caring for the Earth and living with greater awareness of environmental sustainability. Color analysis fits naturally into that philosophy because knowing which colors genuinely work for you can encourage more thoughtful shopping, reduce unnecessary purchases, and help create a wardrobe that will be loved and worn for years.

At the heart of everything I do is connection. Whether I am singing, reading Tarot, exploring culture, dancing, creating art, or working with color, I am drawn to experiences that help people feel more alive and more at home within themselves. Today, I am bringing these different parts of who I am together as an artist, intuitive, mother, and entrepreneur while continuing to build a life and career rooted in creativity, purpose, beauty, and authentic self-expression.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a completely smooth road, but every experience has helped me understand myself more clearly. Even after graduating from college, I struggled for a long time to know exactly who I was, what my purpose was, and where I truly belonged.

I have always loved singing, and for a while I was part of a successful band. We recorded an album, performed, and had so much fun creating music together. It was an exciting chapter of my life, but I still wasn’t certain where I was going. Looking back, I now understand that the searching was part of the beauty of the journey.

I also explored my passion for cooking and tried turning it into a business. I even had the exciting opportunity to be featured in The New York Times Magazine for my chile relleno recipe. I am incredibly proud that I pursued it, but eventually I became burned out. That experience taught me that it is possible to genuinely love something without it needing to become your profession or life’s calling. Not every passion has to be mastered or monetized.

One of my greatest ongoing challenges has been creating stability through self-employment. Since 2020, I have worked entirely for myself, and I have not returned to working for someone else. Entrepreneurship brings freedom and fulfillment, but it also comes with uncertainty. Supporting yourself in the Los Angeles area, with the high cost of housing, gasoline, transportation, and everyday life, is already difficult. Becoming a mother added an entirely new level of responsibility and motivation.

My path has required me to reinvent myself several times, trust my intuition, and keep moving even when I could not see the full picture. Through music, cooking, Tarot, and now color analysis, I have learned that purpose does not always arrive as one clear answer. Sometimes it reveals itself through every experience, every risk, and even every path that ultimately teaches you what you do not want. I am still growing, but today I have a much stronger understanding of who I am and what I want to create for myself and my family.

We’ve been impressed with Jewel Glow Studio , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jewel Glow Studio is a personal color analysis business centered on self-discovery, cultural awareness, and embracing the beauty that is already naturally present within us. Through an in-depth draping process, I study how different undertones, values, and levels of color intensity interact with a person’s skin. Each client leaves with a personalized seasonal palette that can guide their choices in clothing, makeup, hair color, jewelry, and accessories.

What sets my work apart is the deeper intention behind it. As a Latina woman reconnecting with my Indigenous roots, I often think about how Eurocentric beauty standards have shaped our relationship with ourselves. Within many Latino communities, despite our strong Indigenous influence, we have sometimes been encouraged to distance ourselves from those features by straightening our hair, lightening our skin, changing our coloring, or trying to fit into a narrow Western ideal of beauty.

I created Jewel Glow Studio to offer a different message. I want women, especially women who have felt overlooked or pressured to change themselves, to understand that beauty does not have to begin with correction. It can begin from within, through recognizing and honoring what is naturally yours. Rather than conforming to an outside standard, color analysis teaches us how to work in harmony with our own skin, undertone, contrast, and natural coloring.

My work is inclusive of all complexions and ethnic backgrounds. I do not determine someone’s season by stereotypes, ethnicity, hair color, or surface-level features. I carefully observe how the skin responds to color because every person is unique. I am especially passionate about providing thoughtful and accurate analysis for deeper and melanated skin tones, which have not always been represented well within the beauty and color analysis industries.

Jewel Glow Studio is also connected to my belief in environmental sustainability. When people understand which colors truly support them, they can shop more intentionally, purchase fewer pieces, and build a wardrobe they will genuinely wear and enjoy. This reduces waste while creating a healthier and more meaningful relationship with fashion.

What I am most proud of is helping people see themselves differently. Color analysis is not about placing someone into a box or limiting what they are allowed to wear. It is about giving them the knowledge to make confident choices while celebrating their natural beauty. My goal is for every client to leave feeling more connected to themselves, more radiant, and more empowered to take up space exactly as they are.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is living with purpose and feeling deeply passionate about the work I do. In a world increasingly shaped by AI, digital communication, and virtual meetings, I am grateful to have found a career that allows me to connect with people face to face. Color analysis brings me back to the human experience through genuine conversation, human touch, beautiful fabrics, color, and the uniqueness of each person’s skin.

It matters to me that my clients see what I see in them. I want them to notice their beautiful eyes, their natural hair, their skin, and all the individual qualities that make them who they are. My work is not about telling someone that they need to change. It is about helping them recognize which colors support their natural beauty and make them feel more connected to themselves.

I want every client to leave feeling good from within, empowered to make more intentional choices, and confident in the colors they wear. More than anything, I want them to leave knowing that they do not need to become someone else to be beautiful. They are already enough, and they always have been.
