Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Kouxiao Zhang.
Hi Amy Kouxiao, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was raised in a Chinese Christian family with a theatre background in Beijing, which created an environment for me that is always empowering storytelling. Stage plays and stories taught me the importance of looking at things from different perspectives with love, tolerance, and understanding.
In my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to study as an exchange student in Arkansas. Besides learning a lot about American culture from my local host family, I also got to access many Hollywood films. The way of telling a story in the form of film language captivates me. It was then that the seed of becoming a filmmaker sprouted in my heart.
With my love for art, theatre, and film, I studied visual art media at University of California San Diego. Embracing avant-garde art and utilizing new technologies, including computing art, theatre, and Virtual Reality, set me free. But, more importantly, I also discovered the most joy for me is not only expressing myself but also being a producer to help others express their stories and transform the film from a vision to reality.
After several working experiences in the film and TV industry in both China and US, I realized one of the keys of being a producer is to step away from subjective self-expression to an objective view of the film to better empathize with the audience. Thus, I come to Hollywood to become a student again at American Film Institute Conservatory. As a producing fellow here, I not only learned how to practically produce a film and TV shows in the Hollywood way, but also have opportunities to learn from real masters about the core skill of storytelling and visual languages.
As an independent producer, I have met so many amazing people and witnessed their stories drowned out by politics, prejudice, and the explosion of information. With my discovery of the power of being a producer, I will keep trying my best to help more niche voices reach a broader audience, thus freeing storytellers and touching people’s hearts, creating change for the better for both creator and audience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For producers, obstacles and challenges are constant companions. We often joke that a film that does not encounter incidents is the biggest incident. Due to the uniqueness of each film creation, each project will have its own unique issues and challenges. It’s my job and duty to solve problems for the film, which can be very stressful sometimes. However, the best part is, it is also what I enjoy and brings me the most sense of accomplishment.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Easyfind Pictures?
Currently, I’m the CEO of a LA-based production company named Easyfind Pictures, a subsidiary of Easyfind Company. We produce Commercials, Music Videos, Films, and TV shows in both Chinese and English language. We also have an international headquarter located in Nanjing, China.

We also help enrich outstanding young film and television talents by supporting student films and offering various support.
Many of our works have been nominated or won many film festivals worldwide and gained recognition and acclaim from both insiders and outsiders of the industry, as well as from general audiences.
With the mission of “developing Chinese and American stories and enriching a new generation of multi-media talents,” Easyfind Pictures will keep developing comprehensive content for audiences worldwide.
How do you define success?
To me, success is the outcome of trying the best to fulfill the mission. I believe that everyone has different unique missions in different stages of their life. For example, my father as a theater director in China, his current mission is to be able to bring uplifting energy and joy to his audiences through his shows.
Currently, my mission as a producer is to try my best to ensure each of the projects in my hand to become and perform the best version of themselves. Although I think that film is the art of regret, as long as we as filmmakers try our best, the film is still going to thrive in its own term, and I will also be a successful producer of the work.
