Exploring Life & Business with Alessandra Rojas Nerio of Homes By Ale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessandra Rojas Nerio.

Hi Alessandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Alessandra Rojas Nerio, I am a realtor in the greater Los Angeles County area. I am a daughter of immigrants. We moved to the US when I was only 4 years old from Peru. My mother was a computer engineer and my father a sergeant in the military. Even at that age I could understand the struggle of leaving our family behind in the hopes of making a better life fore ourselves. I remember looking out the back of the taxi as we drove away from the only home I knew with all my family waving goodbye as all our eyes filled with tears. Being here was no easier, my parents worked hard to be successful. They came with no more than $5,000. Ultimately my mother found herself working for a lender as a processor and eventually a realtor. It was nothing like what she had gone to school for but the opportunity presented itself and she learned quickly and was good. She worked long hours and was always late to pick me up from school and on the weekends I would go with her to show houses or go to clients homes for listing appointments. She bought a home within one year of being in the US. It was a tiny one bedroom condo in North Hollywood, it wasn’t much but it was ours. This start to our lives here really shaped me. Little by little my parents would move us up into a bigger condo, then a townhome, a small house, and then a bigger house- and slowly also in a better neighborhood. My parents eventually divorced when I was in High school, it hit my little brother hard, I was relieved, but nonetheless we were always by our mother’s side. We had very little family here and the family we had was all my dads side and were unsupportive and almost seemed envious of my moms success. I didn’t know it at the time but my mom was severely depressed with all the deception of my father and again feeling homesick with none of our family that cared and loved us to be here in these hard times. Me and my mother are very close and as I mentioned I grew up always going with her to work. I grew up in her office- showing houses, selling homes- and her coworkers were like family to us. I was a star student all throughout school and graduated with honors with above a 4.0 gpa. I attended Loyola Marymount University and attained my bachelor in Communications. My dream was to work for Disney – this was something my mom and I always bonded over and loved. Eventually working small jobs for the Disney company and interning for Universal, I realized this wasn’t my path. I eventually gravitated to what I felt would make an impact and felt familiar to me – Real Estate. Growing up, when everything felt foreign, having a place to call home I feel like really grounded us. And watching my mom, an immigrant with nothing make a life for herself and slowly build to owning her dream home- it just felt like the ultimate American Dream. I wanted to be a part of this for other families. I wanted to be this person that others can trust with what is really the biggest purchase a family can make, because I know how much it can shape a family and bring them together. Being in this business can be stressful but also so so rewarding. I have a soft spot for my hispanic community because I know many of their stories are like ours and I want to make this dream come true for them too. I bought my first home at 23 years old and again at 26 into my dream home. I want others to see that being a homeowner is possible no matter your circumstance, age, ethnicity, it doesn’t matter. I have been in real estate 7+ years now and sold over 100 homes. I have implemented social media (HomesByAle) to share what I do and guide people who may be lost on where to start with buying or selling a home. I love what I do and I am fortunate to have a supportive husband by my side. I now am building a life my daughter can be proud of. I have a 3 year old daughter who is the center of our world and the spunkiest, sassiest little dancer you’d ever meet Everything we do is for her. My daughter was born with a skin condition called vitiligo- her skin loses pigmentation and results in patches of lighter skin. This was hard for me- I worry how she will be treated. We remind her everyday how beautiful she is and special. As her parents all we can do is be present and support and protect her. We teach her to be brave and kind always. As a family we really strive to never be too busy to be present for her. I feel fortunate to have the life I have, I’d say we live a peaceful and fulfilling life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s definitely been a lot of struggle. A lot of them being mostly internal struggles within myself. Doubting, fear, anxiety, just overall feeling a sort of imposter syndrome. Nothing is this business is guaranteed and the uncertainty of working for yourself can be very stressful. I have grown this business with my mom by my side. I as a realtor and my mom now as a lender. We have a great dynamic but the job always has its challenges.
My degree in communications has been helpful in the constant interactions I have with new people everyday, but ironically I am a bit of an introvert so sometimes meeting new people can be a bit intimidating.
Growing up so far from my family is also hard. I could never see a life anywhere else but I think the lack of family support being nearby has been the biggest struggle. I always felt like my mom and I were alone in anything we did. And watching the family we did have here waiting for us to crash and burn is hard. It definitely lights my fire but it still sucks.
On a day to day I struggle to contain my anxiety. A lot of times this job can feel like you never get a second off. I answer calls from the second I get up to the second I go to sleep and there’s no such thing as a vacation without my laptop and my phone in hand. This for sure takes a toll mentally but it’s also I think part of what makes me successful- I am truly always on top of everything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Homes By Ale?
I grew my Real Estate brand Homes By Ale. I am passionate about helping families achieve the dream of homeownership. I am a Latina and fluent in Spanish. There is nothing I love more than helping my hispanic community and making them feel heard. A lot of times I get clients who tell me the last person they worked with just made them sign and they had no idea what they were signing because it was all in English.
I specialize in all things with Buying and Selling Homes. I love helping first time homebuyers, explaining and guiding through a transaction from start to finish is my forte! Also helping families ready to upgrade to a new home for their growing families is so so rewarding. Or similarly helping families downsize to something more cozy that may not need such a big home anymore. And of course being young myself I absolutely love helping the younger generation! Honestly there is no kind of person/family I do not service, I am up for the challenge!
I have grown my business through social media and making informational and funny videos of all things real estate. I know a lot of times people don’t know where to start in the home buying process and these quick little videos are a great way to give them some knowledge of what to expect and answer some of the biggest questions I hear most about real estate. This probably is what sets me apart from most agents- I’m not afraid to get in front of a camera (anymore lol) and embarrass myself if I have to for the sake of my community learning something new. If my silly video leads to someone finding me and reaching out to me for help then it was all worth it!
I have recently partnered with a phenomenal group of ladies – 1 phenomenal real estate professional from every state In the US- to help facilitate relocation sales. So if you are want to move out of state, I am ready to help you sell here and connect you with a boss realtor in any state you choose to move to!
I think what I am most proud of about my brand is my inclusivity. I genuinely will guide and prepare anyone. I do not shy away from answering questions even if the person may not be ready to buy or sell quite yet. I love working alongside my mom to find the right loan program for ANY situation. I always tell my clients the way to get out of the doubt of “I don’t know if I’m ready to buy/sell” is simply sitting down with us. We can give you the clarity through evaluating all scenarios and all the numbers within an hour. And if maybe you are not quite ready we have all the resources to prepare you so you aren’t going into it blind.
My work ethic is all about ACTION. I am not by any means a “passive” agent – meaning I do not sit and wait for the home to sell itself. I am proactive and do the work. Through my degree I use my marketing and communication skills to really get the best results whether to sell a home or get my buyers their dream home.
I recently read that about 71% of realtors didn’t sell 1 home last year. I am here to tell you that is not me. It truly matters who you work with. Not only have I been in the top percent of every brokerage I’ve been a part of, I have also been recognized as one of the top agents in Los Angeles County by the National Association of Hispanic Realtors.
I am here to give my all to make this process smooth and as least stressful for you!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My biggest advice is not being afraid to have a conversation with anyone. Put yourself out there, in your day to day, every interaction is an opportunity. I have lately pushed myself to attend networking events within realtors of my area. There is nothing more beneficial than building relationships.
