Today we’d like to introduce you to Adeola Ogunneye.

Hi Adeola, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our skin moisturizing collection began in 2014 when I simply had enough. I struggled daily with dry skin and was quickly underwhelmed by the results of the retail moisturizers available to me. The list goes on from the harsh alcohols and chemicals that strip the skin of its natural luster to a slew of ingredients I could barely pronounce. As a Nigerian native living in western society, I was also disheartened by the absence of holistic beauty for women of color, the distorted view of beauty and the overall lack of representation. I felt robbed of the radiance and luster my skin deserved.

I recognized the importance of changing this narrative and immediately committed to becoming a part of the solution. What originally started as a personal project evolved into a side hustle and ultimately a full-time mission. I spent months extensively researching the benefits of various natural ingredients and mastered the perfect formula to ensure that our product line (body butter, crèmes and hand lotions) provide maximum, long-lasting hydration. Our goal is to leave your skin radiant, supple and smooth.

We are a skin moisturizing brand passionate about feeding your skin with nutrient-rich natural ingredients and adding intentionality to your daily body care routine. We believe that skincare is more the physical application of our all-natural products. Skincare is an intentional daily act that is essential to your health. Your skin is a statement, a first and lasting impression. We are passionate about communicating the importance of self-care with all its therapeutic properties, specifically in the Black community.

And the cherry on top is Every single one of our products are sent with a positive affirmation that was submitted by real customers. We aspire to build a sense of community by connecting individuals through spreading these acts of kindness and love. This is extremely important to me with my background as a licensed therapist that promotes wellness and self-care of the mind, body and soul.

I operate out of Greenbelt, Maryland; however, my products are sold in BeautyBeez located in North Hollywood.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! I am grateful for how much we have grown in loyal customers over the years; however, entrepreneurship is truly a journey of highs and lows. One of the lessons I learned fast is you can not succeed in running and operating a business alone. A good business takes teamwork and experts in various fields to ensure all grounds are covered. I had to learn how to train and manage others and also be willing and able to identify my personal shortcomings and the areas I need assistance. I also quickly realized the need for capital for inventory and sourcing raw materials, packaging materials, maintaining website and other platforms, and the list goes on. I have thoroughly enjoyed the process and have learned to embrace all aspects of starting a business. I have experienced the most joyous highs and sorrowful lows, but my vision continues to be my focus pushing me through.

We are most proud of how much we’ve grown since going full-time in 2020 as a one-woman show to a team and the most loyal customers constantly referring their network. Our packaging is pristine and truly provides a luxury feel in every bathroom.

We want people to know that we are more that just the physical application of a product. We are very passionate about wellness and truly loving the skin that you’re in. After suffering with visibly dry and ashy skin, creating our products truly boosted my confidence and security in myself.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learnt the importance of seeking counsel and not being afraid to reach out to the people I am aspiring to be like. Often times, we get intimidated by peoples success and want to learn things the hard way. There are other successful business owners that have walked in your shoes in some way, and if you have the ability to set up a chat, DO SO. I have gained so many gems from amazing women and will not trade that knowledge for anything. Network, Network, NETWORK! In return, I’m always so happy to share information with anyone that wants to learn from me. There is truly room for us all to succeed.
