Today we’d like to introduce you to LaShelle Cooper.
Hi LaShelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always knew that I wanted to be a writer or associated with writing. As a teenager, I just didn’t know that would lead me to where I am. My love was formed the day I wrote my first poem and that love for writing grew into songs and melodies. Then, in high school, I was elected to be one of the high school newsletter editors. My passion for words on paper increased by the days. Today, I am a published author, a book publisher and CEO of Cayélle Publishing LLC, and singer/songwriter. I guess the arts was where I always knew I belonged.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been a tough journey. I had my first child at 15, so I was always working. I had attempted at a music career as a singer/songwriter but it was always a failed mission. Parenting one child, then two, and finally three, there was almost always no time for my personal goals. I was a single parent for so many years, and my focus changed from my dreams to doing what I needed to do to feed my children. I also wanted to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree, which I did. However, the financial struggles, mental health struggles, and parenting struggles were always there and at times, I just didn’t know how I would ever accomplish anything. I started not to believe it all possible. However, giving up has never been a part of my DNA. I would rather go down knowing I did everything I possibly could than let my children see me throw in the towel. It just wasn’t an option for me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a book publisher and co-owner of Cayélle Publishing LLC. We receive tons of submissions from aspiring or even experienced authors who hope to have their books published with our company. We currently have over 15 signed authors and we are very proud of their work and contribution to our company.
I am also a singer/songwriter. I just released a song on May 5, 2021 titled “24 Hours 2 Long” as a tribute to Mrs. Vanessa Bryant, whom I hope gets to hear the song one day. I wrote it as a grieving fan of the late, great Kobe Bryant. The title displays him and his daughter Gianna Bryant’s jersey numbers. I have always admired Mrs. Bryant for her poise, support of her family, and the dedication as a woman, wife, and mother. I couldn’t imagine her pain of losing her husband and child. I not only admire her, but now she is an inspiration to me and my heart goes out to her. She is the epitome of strength. But I am proud that even after so many losses in my attempts to gain a singing career, I was able to release a song and who knew that it would be this song. It means a great deal. I actually wrote it on January 26, 2021 to honor the one year anniversary of Kobe and Gianna’s passing.
Aside from the business and music, I am a proud mother of three and wife. If there is anything that sets me apart from others, it’s my desire to help others become something great. Whatever someone’s talent is, I want to help bring that talent forth. I look for everyday to inspire and motivate people. I truly desire for people to believe in themselves. I don’t want to gain anything from that but to see them happy and going after their truth.
I am most proud of my book, Priceless. It is available on Cayellepublishing.com. However, I believe so much in Cayélle Publishing. They are both my babies.
I would love for authors to submit their manuscripts to Cayélle Publishing; for readers to read the books of our authors; for music lovers to hear my music and experience the emotions I did when writing and recording; for the creative world to know about LaShelle Cooper and that I am a faulted human with a loving heart and anything I do I promise you I am putting my whole heart into it.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I hope Cayélle Publishing takes the publishing world by storm. I see our organization flourishing with authors and readers who want to even become authors themselves. I see a book publishing distribution deal in our future and seeing us being available for authors on a global level.
What I hope for my music…finally to be heard. I write and sing because I love and enjoy it. I want to make people smile. Peace and happiness is what it’s all about for me.
