Daily Inspiration: Meet WD HAN

Today we’d like to introduce you to WD HAN.

WD HAN

Hi WD, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Risking everything, we took the leap in 2022 and moved from Florida to Los Angeles to continue pursuing music together.

It’s hard to find a tighter-knit group than us, as our frontman Spencer Barnes and drummer Lea Barnes are married and I, Cal, guitarist am married to our manager, Marjorye. It’s what we directly attribute to our success; along with a love of fun, spontaneity and lots of hard work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d say the biggest hurdle we’ve had to face was packing up and moving cross country last year. We had been doing well, playing frequent shows, releasing music, etc. From the outside looking in it definitely looked like we were living comfortably, but it wasn’t enough. We each have this huge passion for music and wanted to see where it could take us. None of us wanted to look back on our life and say, ‘What if?’

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One thing that sets WD-HAN apart is our dedication to addressing meaningful topics in our music. For instance, we have a song coming out on 8/11 that tackles the subject of Human Trafficking head-on. It’s called “Something’s Gotta Change” and to us, it is more than just a song; it’s a passionate outcry demanding attention and action.

Throughout our career, we’ve been fortunate to share the stage with some incredible bands like Paramore, Walk the Moon, Silversun Pickups, and Kaleo. It’s been an honor to open for such talented artists and learn from their experiences. Moreover, we’ve had the privilege of touring Asia three times, which has allowed us to connect with music lovers from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

One of our proudest moments was when Ryan Tedder, a highly respected musician and songwriter, heard our music and expressed his admiration for the band, calling us “amazing.” It was truly humbling and inspiring to receive such high praise from a fellow artist we deeply admire.

Additionally, being invited to open the 10-year anniversary show of the ‘Heidi and Frank’ show on KLOS in Los Angeles was a significant milestone for us. It showcased the impact of our music in the local music scene and our ability to connect with our audience on a larger scale.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that staying authentic, persevering through challenges, and embracing our passion for music are the keys to making a lasting impact in the industry and in the hearts of our listeners. I’m grateful for every experience and person we’ve met along the way, as they have shaped not only our music but also our character as artists and human beings.
