Today we’d like to introduce you to Warrior Dave.
Hi Warrior, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born in NYC originally. I grew up lving in SoCal since I was 12 years of age (10/1/99, still remember the date like its literally yesterday). My mother and my grandparents (RIP) ultimately were responsible for my move, since my mom moved here in the 80s for a job opportunity at the time, and my grandparents wanted me to have a better life… Many ups, many downs, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Fast forward to 2026, my life now mostly revolves around concerts, whether it’s work or attending them or occasionally both. I also work a normal 9-5 to get by. Schedule fluctuates each week, but somehow I manage to make it work, even when the going gets tough. With the music scene in particular, I wear many hats (and face paints lol).. Most of all, I consider myself to be an enthusiast more so than an entrepreneur. For me, being a fan (or a superfan) always comes first, everything else comes second. I love to meet new people, make new friends, and build connections. Worked at a music venue called the Whisky A Go Go full time for 2 years, and learned a lot from my time there. Also worked with Youngblood Productions as well for off and on the better part of 10 years. That’s really where I’ve gained the most hands on experience with promoting shows.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Sometimes, but def not always. Life has its challenges. You learn the dos and the donts..
With working at a venue, you sometimes get thrown to the wolves and it’s sink or swim, like you’re almost expected to know every move at every turn, wondering to yourself if you’ll do a good job and make a good impression.
With facepainting (as part of my WD persona), learning how to write/paint letters with a brush backwards was always quite the challenge in the beginning, but after 16 years of familiarity, it becomes like riding a bike after a while. The easiest way I’d do it was/is just by looking at my t-shirts in the mirror and think backwards. I base what I do on a theme. Whatever I’m feeling at the time. My style and color scheme naturally goes with the flow of time of day or month, whether it’d be during a holiday, or what I’m wearing, or when/if a personal tragedy occurs, etc. That’s usually where I would take the most inspiration from. The challenge is always trying to come up with different ideas in mind that still feel fresh.
On a similar note, I’ve taken public transportation everywhere as my means of getting around since I was in high school. It’s not entirely a struggle if you’re very familiar with the surrounding areas to and from your destination, but it is a challenge sometimes.. It may take longer to get around, you may have to occasionally order a Uber/Lyft as an alternative in emergency situations, but as long as you manage your time with the bus and/or train routes, everything will work out.
Some say I’ve traveled out more times than most do on a car. *laughs*
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
There’s an event I like to do annually known as Warrior Dave Fest, which is more like a passion project of mine that not only celebrates my existence on earth, but also a way of building community around the local scene. It takes a village to be able to make stuff happen with all those you love around you who support you through thick and thin.
