Daily Inspiration: Meet Sophie And Davey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie And Davey.

Hi Sophie and Davey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The lore of Dildox has humble beginnings. Our backgrounds range in interest and experience but we hold the same passion for music and Dildox stands as the constantly evolving reflection of our varied musical experiences manifested physically in the underground music scene here in Los Angeles. We started out jamming, Davey on bass and Sophie playing drum machines, synths, and looping vocals.

After our first few shows we received a strong reaction to our performances and we felt moved to continue forging ahead and playing more. The journey over the past few years has been fast and feral. We’ve been lucky enough to build a reputation for our live sets – sweaty, chaotic, unhinged. Every show is a kind of ritual. People started paying attention not because we were another polished post punk band, but because we were possessed.

We’ve kept pushing our sound, more distortion, more body, more danger. We also continue experimenting with our visuals and lighting as well as film. We were able to release our first music video, Devilish, produced by incredible director Jane Slater and filmed and edited by Glen Jennings, which captured Sophie rising out of purgatory like a demon in Demonia’s.

Our initial inspiration still remains the same – experimentation and energy built on the back of early EBM and industrial music with a hint of funk amidst the gritty synth punk. That’s how we built Dildox into the project it is today, through bodies in motion, sweat, feedback, and failure. Nothing about Dildox was clean or premeditated and we plan to keep it confrontational and seductive as the growth continues…

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There was never a clear path for us as a band, the struggles include working full time while also pursuing a touring schedule. Not making enough but needing money to invest in the production of our music and merchandising too. We know being a self-funded and self-managed band wouldn’t be the easiest thing but we wanted complete control of our artistic and business decisions. It hasn’t been easy but it’s been worth it and we’ve learned so much along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Dildox is a punk duo that smashes industrial, darkwave, and synth-pop into each other—but we come from different backgrounds as artists.
Sophie started out on classical piano as a kid and went on to study pipe organ before discovering her obsession with synthesizers and producing electronic music in Ableton.
Davey grew up in the Chicago punk scene—he’s been in bands forever. Producing came later, pushed by what Dildox was becoming. Now we build everything ourselves from the ground up.

We’re known for tracks that are harsh, unhinged, and weirdly fun—music that hits like a punch to the chest. There’s real emotion in it, but we’re not precious about it.

What we’re proud of is that it’s real. The sound is intense, sometimes chaotic, but always intentional. Sophie’s vocals cut through with obsession, mania, or defiance, while Davey’s production pulls from classic EBM (electronic body music) while maintaining a funky undercurrent.

What sets us apart? We don’t dress it up. No big setup, no spectacle. Just two people making raw, wired music that actually means something. No gloss. No filler. All guts.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Perseverance, no expectations, CREATION as cause, touring the United States and playing cities we’ve never been to, building community…
