Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Lafayette Layton.
Sean Lafayette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a DJ/producer/entrepreneur. Growing up, I first just wanted to be in a band. Rock music was my first love. My dad got me a guitar, and I started writing songs. I learned that I had an ear for writing music. I was the kid trying to convince all of his friends to make music with him. It hooked me very early, and I started going to shows as often as I could.
Although the band thing never panned out, that passion led me down a better path for myself, which was learning how to produce, and that, in turn, led to DJing. As I got older, I started going to raves and festivals, and those had a massive impact on me. I figured out pretty quickly that if I could learn how to produce, I could still have the live element with DJing, and I wouldn’t have to rely on anyone else. So, I moved to LA, sat in a room, and taught myself how to produce. I have been fortunate and grateful to have found multiple mentors to help me along my path.
Outside of creating, I enjoy the business side of things. I have businesses beyond music, and I have always possessed an entrepreneurial spirit, being quite self-reliant, with a willingness to throw myself into the fire and see what happens.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have experienced numerous ‘failures,’ etc. Now, I perceive everything as either a redirection or a confirmation of whether I am on the right path. I’ve had to learn how not to force things and create resistance for myself. While I do my part to make things happen, if it’s not working, it’s not working. Learning when it’s time to push or let go has been one of the most significant challenges, or, in my case, life lessons that I consistently learn.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I produce house music that I describe as ‘mood house’. It’s simply a blend of moody house music and techno.

What matters most to you?
I believe what matters is gaining absolute clarity on why you desire the things you want and then honestly acknowledging whether you are willing to undertake the necessary actions to achieve them.
