Daily Inspiration: Meet Ryan Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Lopez.

Hi Ryan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The story for my upcoming film “Auras” started in 2022 when I was attending the Cannes Film Festival, where my film was screening at The American Pavilion.

I was looking out at the groups of people as the sun was setting, and I wondered what it would look like if everyone had Auras of light around their bodies, and what that could possibly mean. I realized I had a base for my next film with that idea, but I wasn’t sure what it was going to be about thematically.

Over the years, ideas came and went, but the idea of Auras stuck with me for all that time. I’m super excited that it’s actually happening now and we have a great team on it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any Animated short there’s a ton of struggles, but I’ve found that the best way to make sure things go smoothly are with a great team.

Our Producer on the film, Christen Rangel, and Art Director Taylor Chojecki have been with the film since the earliest days of me trying to turn this idea into a finished project, a little over a year ago.

They’ve seen every iteration of what the film could be, and I think we landed on the best version of the story.

Our Animation/Vizdev team are the heartbeat of this film as well, there are so many names to mention but our Production Designer Robin Enriquez, is painting all of the backgrounds by hand, and his vizdev work has been super important in making this film a reality.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am a Jr Storyboard Artist at Lucasfilm Animation, and that’s where I’ve gotten a lot of my experience in the world of storytelling. The experience I’ve gotten up here has been essential in helping make Auras the film that it is.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We plan to have the film finished in the new year, after that we will be making a festival run!
