Today we’d like to introduce you to ROYAL CARTER.
Hi ROYAL, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began in Brooklyn,New York and the Hamptons. From a very young age, I was surrounded by music, art, fashion, and creativity. I took dance classes, modeled, sang, and explored art. I was always drawn to the creative world.
My parents, however, had a different vision for us. They wanted us to become doctors or lawyers, and they viewed the creative arts as more of a hobby. But even though they wanted us to pursue traditional careers, they still supported our creative interests as we got older.
I was also fortunate to grow up around neighbors who were artists and writers, so I was exposed to a world of creativity and storytelling at an early age. Being around music especially had a profound impact on me. I absorbed so much of what I was seeing and hearing that, deep down, I knew entertainment would eventually become part of my life.
Even as a young girl, I felt that I was meant to do something bigger than myself. I didn’t just want to participate in the arts—I wanted to create, inspire people, and ultimately change lives.
As I grew older, that childhood passion developed into my work in music, fashion, art, writing, and film. Today, all of those creative experiences come together through ROYAL CARTER.
When I look back, I realize that the little girl in the Hamptons who was dancing, modeling, singing, and creating art already had the beginning of the vision. I just had to build it.
“The Crown wasn’t given it was built.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve experienced heartbreak, loss, disappointment, and many setbacks along the way. There were moments when I had to make difficult choices about who I was willing to become in order to move forward.
I’ve faced temptations and situations where it may have been easier to compromise my values just to get ahead, but I chose not to. I stood my ground. I refused to lose myself just to gain an opportunity.
There were times when I had to walk away, start over, and continue believing in my vision when other people didn’t understand it. Those experiences taught me that sometimes the hardest part of pursuing your dreams is having the courage to do it your way.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of knowing your value. I’ve had people offer substantial amounts of money for me to sign over my music and art, put my book aside, and walk away from the larger vision I had created.
I remember telling them very clearly: “The art is for sale. The music is for sale. The book is for sale. The movie is for sale—but I am not.”
For me, that statement represents much more than business. It represents self-worth. I’m willing to collaborate, create, negotiate, and build with the right people, but I will not compromise my identity, my values, or my vision just to get somewhere faster.
My setbacks didn’t stop me; they made me more determined. I learned that you can experience loss and still rebuild, experience rejection and still believe, and go through difficult seasons without abandoning who you are.
I’m doing it my way—not because the road has been easy, but because I believe the life I’m building has to be authentic to me. My work can have a price, but my purpose does not.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Singer/Songwriter, Author, Artist, Designer, and Film Writer. My career is centered around creating original work across fashion, music, visual art, literature, and film.
As a Designer, I’ve had the opportunity to create pieces for recognizable names in entertainment, I continue to develop my own luxury fashion vision under the ROYAL CARTER name. While also opening up doors for other designers like China-Mariah to come up.
As an Artist, I create original fine-art pieces built around emotion, symbolism, and storytelling, including works done with Artist Christon-Isaiah creating pieces such as Serenity, Trust, Respect, Loyalty, Believe, and The Forest. Each piece represents a different feeling, experience, or message.
As a Songwriter and Artist, I write and develop my own music cd’s, albums as ROYAL CARTER. Music has been part of my creative identity from an early age, and I continue to build my catalog and bring my projects to life.
As an Author, I have published “The Making of ROYAL CARTER,”a book that explores my journey, experiences, creativity, and the vision behind the woman and brand.
As A Film Writer, I worked with writer Christian-Elijah. We are developing original stories and screen projects that bring together my experiences, imagination, fashion, music, and visual storytelling in a series of movies.
What I’m most proud of is that I have continued to create across multiple creative industries without allowing myself to be placed into just one category. The music, fashion, art, books, and film are all expressions of the same creative vision.
What sets me apart is that I’m building more than individual projects. I’m building a complete creative world around ROYAL CARTER. My goal is to create work that has meaning, tells a story, and stays with people long after they have seen it, heard it, or experienced it. To open doors for the next generation to follow.
I’m not trying to fit into a category. I’m creating my own. “ROYAL CARTER,” The BRAND, The LEGACY.
A Note for Readers
Please do not confuse me with the young actress Royal R. Carter, who is based in Los Angeles and is known for video, movies, and modeling. I think she is absolutely beautiful. We are two different people.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m inspired by resources that keep me connected to fashion, business, leadership, personal growth, creativity, and purpose. I enjoy publications such as Vogue, ELLE, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Forbes, because they expose me to different perspectives across fashion, culture, entrepreneurship, and business.
I also enjoy books and films such as Think and Grow Rich, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and The Wolf of Wall Street, which have sparked my interest in ambition, entrepreneurship, wealth creation, and the psychology of business.
When it comes to podcasts and television, I don’t watch a lot of television, but I enjoy The Tamron Hall Show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, and Live with Kelly and Mark. I enjoy conversations that feature interesting people, real stories, creativity, and different perspectives.
But above everything else, my go-to is the Bible. My faith is a foundation in my life and influences how I approach my work, my decisions, my relationships, and the vision I have for my future.
I believe in staying curious, continuing to learn, and surrounding myself with ideas that encourage me to grow.
