Daily Inspiration: Meet Rico Barre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rico Barre

Hi Rico, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was young, I would freestyle a lot. I liked to battle other people and show my skills off. When I was in 5th grade, my teacher gave me a notebook to write in, and that’s when I payed attention to writing my ideas down. Fast forward to when I was 18, a friend of mine and I had 5 minutes left in a studio session, in which we created my first single “Shy Guy Story”. I’ve released numerous singles and one album “Visions” since. I’ve performed at the SOS Festival in Long Beach as well as other pop ups.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely NOT been a smooth road. I learned along the way that not everybody you expect to support you, will. I’ve had to become my own biggest fan. I’ve parted ways with individuals I’ve felt close to in pursuit of my passion. This allowed me to focus on what I desire without distractions that do not help my vision.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a writer/performer/producer.
I wouldn’t say I fit in a specific genre. I like to mix things up and create whatever I’m feeling. A lot of my work is melodic. Some songs may sound like rap, others may sound more rnb, neo soul, or even a little like rock. What sets me apart from others is my message that becomes amplified by my stage presence. I carry an attitude that says “I have flaws, I make mistakes, and that’s fine. I’m learning.You can join my journey or get out of my way.”

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Shout out to the Stu! They help a lot of underground talent and businesses gain recognition. As far as what helps me, I use Logic to record my vocals and make my beats. For mixing, I usually send my work out to someone who is more experienced in that field.
