Daily Inspiration: Meet Rhome Sylvers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhome Sylvers.

Hi Rhome, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born in Kansas City, MO, A’naz Rhome Sylvers-Cotton (Rhome Sylvers), is a music industry Legacy child. Though raised with his mom and having talented family on both sides, Rhome is a Sylvers and son of legendary producer Leon Sylvers IIV.

Starting in school, Rhome always developed a knack for the arts. From drawing, playing instruments, and creative writing, to acting, dance, and film production, these tools were detrimental in choosing creativity as a career and many opportunities were provided early in television production, theater, journalism and Band courses.

In 2011, after leaving Florida A&M University, where he studied theatre/production with minor focuses in journalism/psychology, Rhome moved to Los Angeles and honed his craft of dance at Debbie Reynolds Studios, and improv/acting at Second City Hollywood. As time progressed his consistency and experience began to provide more opportunities, starting with a hip hop program at Howard university, a dance program with the Drug Enforcement Administration, and multiple programs in Dallas as well. After transitioning to Dallas (2013), Rhome took his focuses from just dance to now events, and commercial based acting. A Wingstop international, a VisionWorks Magazine Spread, and one billboard later, he had chosen to never look back.

In 2015 Rhome Sylvers moved back to LA. Since then he has choreographed and Artist developed for projects/Artists, produced events for celebrities/companies, creative direct for multiple projects/brands, etc.

“It’s Cool to know the celebrities and have relationships with brands, but how do you make the best of your resources?”

This question lead to the creation of Blank Canvaz Productions, and his independent partnerships such as Dame Dash Studios (2019), RayJ (2020), Snoop Dogg (2021), and now Howard University. Blank Canvaz Productions is a creative producing content curation production company. Creating the concept from start to finish and facilitating the pre-production, production, & Post Production.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like all things it’s never a smooth road and the best things come with a struggle. Whether it’s depending on others that fell through, personality not meshing with the proper people, having to operate with less, peers not wanting to pay for your talent or time, others bad mouthing you behind your back and thinking you don’t know, people going around you to get your resources, or personal problems such as your own demeanor in the times that you are tested, these are all trials and tests to see how much you want it. Though these are all true things experienced when pursuing success, the biggest struggle is the emotional maturity it will take when people are doing things toward you out of dislike, greed, jealousy, ignorance, and much more interfering energies. You have to be committed to your own journey and the obstacles seem less abundant.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Though I am an independent producer, I like to think of myself as a finder. I find what the next thing is. In my partnership with the drug enforcement administration, at the time I saw they had a desire to have hip hop classes, so I formed a class curriculum which they funded and gave me two schools to facilitate. At Dame Dash Studios, I saw the desire for more diversified events so I would produce and direct live performance based shows, stand up comedy, and film production premiers. With Chris and Kyle Massey I partnered to create a celebrity basketball game in 2021. With Ray J he was seeking a live stream platform and I had the privilege of producing his streams on bigo live. With Snoop Dogg, during the pandemic I created a Digital fest that turned into an entertainment festival we are now gearing up for. I best describe myself as a creative finder or visionary. I think others would define me in multiple facets. I am most proud that I never had to lock myself into one talent, and because of this it has given me access in so many different spaces within the Entertainment industry. That also adds to what sets me apart, I don’t just have access, but I have the skills required of each room as well. From dance, acting, and music, to producing, directing, and writing, my skills have been honed for both sides of the camera, with the expressed knowledge of each as well.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m legacy to the Family Music Group “THE SYLVERS” of SOLAR Records and out of the family, I am the son of the known leader and oldest brother of the family, Leon Sylvers IIV. Leon produced Shalamar, Dynasty, The Whispers, Lakeside, and so many more. From “And the beat goes on” to, “Night to Remember”, I am a product of where the culture of west coast music/entertainment started. It’s easier to understand the genetic dynamic of the talents when people really start to know that story.
