Daily Inspiration: Meet Rashaun Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashaun Brown

Hi RaShaun, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a child, I started off singing in the church choir. Growing up in the 90s, my biggest influence was Bone Thugs N Harmony, which is how I fell in love with HipHop. From there, I began writing poetry in high school English class. And then one day, my brother found a beat off of Soundclick, and he asked me to rap to it. That was in 2009. I was inspired afterwards to begin my secular rap career. In 2015, my brother and I released a song that made Everything Georgia’s Summer Playlist on Spotify. That was probably the height of my secular career. I gave up rapping in 2017, got married, and became a youth pastor. Fast forward to 2022, I picked up rapping again after recording an intro to my podcast. The song was so well received by friends and family that I decided to pursue a Christian rap career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has not been smooth. At the height of my secular career, I found my wife, and juggling a rap career along with getting married and trying to create a family, became a source of tension. I spent years feeling unfulfilled after giving up my dream. However, after discovering that my dream was aligned with my purpose, things began to come full circle again. Now that I rap for Christ, the road is much smoother.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a rapper and songwriter. I specialize in songwriting and making music that glorifies God, but doesn’t sound overtly “religious.” I’m most proud of moving from Georgia to LA and making a name for myself out here in songwriting. I’m set apart because my whole life and career is the definition of faith. I took a chance and believed in myself and trusted God.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk I’ve taken is leaving tradition and everything I knew. I come from a small town in Georgia, and now I live in LA. When everyone was moving away from California, I moved TO California. This past year of my life would be considered very risky to the world, but when you have faith in God, nothing is impossible.
