Daily Inspiration: Meet Pablo Borges

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pablo Borges. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Pablo moved to the US in 1994 to pursue a college degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising. Pablo graduated from the prestigious International Fine Arts College in Miami, FL, at the top of his class after winning Air France’s “Jeunes Creauteurs de Mode”, a design competition for aspiring young fashion designers around the world, held in Paris, France.

Shortly after graduating college, Pablo moved to New York, where he carved an impressive career in the very fast-paced, colorful and exciting world of fashion… Back on 7th Av, in New York, Pablo got to work as an apprentice, an assistant designer and a fashion sketch artist for some of the top fashion designers in the US, including Randolph Duke, Melinda Eng, Josie Natori and Monique Lhuillier.

Pablo moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue his dream of becoming a Costume Designer. He became a sketch artist for several designers and eventually landed a job as a costume illustrator for Academy Award – Oscar Winner, Costume Designer Colleen Atwood. Pablo has worked with some of Hollywood’s top Costume Designers in numerous Films and Television Series.

Pablo’s resume speaks for itself…with almost 20 years of experience in the movie industry, his unique design sensibility, combined with his fashion design training, knowledge on garment construction, an eye for silhouette and color and his ability to create, develop and execute a full character concept from beginning to end, truly make Pablo and asset on any production…

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. You really must be passionate about this career. It can be a back breaking job, with long hours and sometimes working in distant locations for 6 months or longer. Every production is different and has its own set of challenges….but with that said, I do love what I do, and I am constantly learning and growing as an artist and getting better at what I do.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Costume Designer for film and TV. I am most proud of coming to the US when I was 18 years old, with a few hundred dollars in my pocket, without speaking English and big dreams. I’ve worked very hard, put myself thru fashion school, and graduated at the top of my class. I am very proud f my career in fashion and how it translated into Costume Design. I think what sets me apart is that even when people say no, I keep trying. If I fall, I get up and keep going, and I have been able to learn from my mistakes and turn them into invaluable learning experiences.

What are your plans for the future?
I want to transition into writing and producing. I have great ideas and I am very excited about bringing them to life!
