Daily Inspiration: Meet omg ken

Today we’d like to introduce you to omg ken

Hi omg, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was a kid with big aspirations & little confidence. The beginning was tough, I really didn’t know what to expect when I began my journey. Not many people were willing to help a young artist which I found very confusing. I knew I had what it takes I just needed the guidance. As an artist, when things become difficult, you have a choice. The choice is either to give up or find another way to reroute for success. The only thing that keeps me going is the fact I have something to prove. Speaking specifically on what I want out of this, I honestly just want to make my family proud. I owe my parents the universe. I’m forever in debt with them for what they’ve helped me achieve & allowed me to pursuit. Present day, I feel I’ve made tremendous steps towards my goal, although, I still know that I have much more work to do considering I’m never really satisfied. I plan to make even greater steps towards what I actually want to achieve, regardless of how long it takes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If I were to speak on all the struggles to this point we’d be here for a while. But I will say the main thing is identifying your supporters & where your support is coming from. A lot of times I’ve been in positions where the one’s closest to me won’t support me. I would have performances where I’d personally invite people & they either decline the offer or just don’t show up. It hurt to see but also helped me open my eyes. I’m not mad at those people & never will be, regardless of how much they actually care to support. I understand sometimes the ones closest to us support us less than the one’s who don’t even know us. Therefore, I never take offense to it.

In addition, being able to find guidance has been difficult. In music, there’s no specific guideline to follow. Everyone grows in various ways & for many different reasons. Therefore, following a specific plan can be difficult. I’ve had a few mentors but it’s always hard to find someone who is both consistent & attentive to your needs. That’s why it’s always important for me to be fully knowledgeable about everything I’m doing on the scene.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist, of course, but I also envision myself as an innovator. I’ve been that way all my life. I feel that I have a really good feel for creativity & expression. I feel it’s been key to my success thus far. Most of what I do is centered around innovation & ways that I can invoke emotion into my audience. I feel that’s the most satisfying part about my craft. I have a genuine love for artistry which keeps me going consistently.

I’m most proud of the feedback I get from younger kids with the same aspirations as I do. I remember at some point I was in their shoes looking up at people I saw as role models. This helps me understand that what I’m doing is essential for the one’s watching. Without them, I don’t think I’d be as motivated to keep going to pursue this dream. In fact, this journey without inspiration feels somewhat pointless. With that being said, I feel this is what separates me from others. Most people pursue their dream for themselves, & rightfully so. Although, I feel my target is always outward. I enjoy the appreciation I get out of my audience & supporters. Therefore, I never really feel I’m pursuing this for me. It’s for the one’s watching.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory has to be the day my mom chased my brother & I from our friend’s house. My brother & I were supposed to wash the dishes & clean the living room before my mom made it home. We both agreed to have it finished & started with only washing the dishes. We then took a nap & forgot the second half of the promise. Instead, not thinking, we woke up & thought everything that needed to be done was complete. We went to our friends house to chill with them. Later that night, I’m assuming my mom came home from work & saw the living room. My brother & I were playing 2k & heard a knock at the door. All of our friends were inside so we were beyond confused on who was knocking. My friend peeped out the peephole & said it was our mom. It hit me at that second that we forgot to clean the living room. We opened the door & she had a belt in her hand. She pointed in the direction of the house & we ran by her, scared that the swing was coming. After that day I never forgot to do any chores.
