Today we’d like to introduce you to Musubi
Hi MUSUBI, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Madison, but I’m better known as MUSUBI. I’m a DJ, artist, and producer originally from San Francisco, and I now split my time between Los Angeles and New York. I got my start by creating playlists for myself, friends, and family on SoundCloud and eventually taught myself how to DJ from there. I remember being so nervous for my first set. I would never have guessed I’d be where I am today. Fast forward almost 10 years, and I’m still doing what I love and am now gearing up to release my first original tracks. My early mixes from around 2015 were actually created on GarageBand, not on any professional DJ or production software, so it’s been quite a journey so far!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but I think that’s part of what makes the journey rewarding. Challenges, especially mental ones, have been significant, but I’ve learned to manage them better over time. It’s all about learning from these experiences and staying focused on your unique path. For me, trusting that things will unfold as they’re meant to has been crucial in maintaining motivation and resilience.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a DJ, artist, and producer, I embrace a wide range of musical styles because I believe in the power of diverse sounds and refuse to be confined to just one genre. My passion for music in all its forms drives me to explore and create across different styles.
I’m particularly proud of the community I’ve built over the years—seeing how my work resonates with people and hearing how it positively impacts them is incredibly gratifying. What I think sets me apart is how personal and authentic my work is. I pour my heart into everything I create, and it means so much to me when people connect with or find joy in my music or art. Knowing that my work can resonate with others and make a positive impact is what keeps me motivated.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Many people are surprised to discover how reserved I am in my personal life! I can be quite shy and introverted, and my outgoing, “loud” side really only shows through in my work and public presence. I often compare myself to a cat—initially cautious and needing time to warm up, but once I’m comfortable, I become quite chatty and engaging.
