Today we’d like to introduce you to Mila Spigolon.
Hi Mila, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in show business, watching my father in plays, circus and magic shows in Brazil, and from a very young age, I developed an interest for dancing and music. Starting with ballet, jazz and tap dancing. Later my father put me, my sister and my mother to work and travel with a Puppet Theater company. As a teenager, I was performing with dance companies while also working with my father in our circus troupe as a magician assistant and developing my own aerial, dance and musical numbers. But it was the world of Jazz, Broadway and Old Hollywood musicals that stole my heart at that time. So I started traveling to Europe and the US to study Vernacular American Dances and through the world of jazz & swing dancing I discovered Burlesque and end up moving to Los Angeles and traveling the world with burlesque and cabaret. In 2015, I created my own Vaudeville show “Tropical Follies” A Musical Revue that features music, dance, comedy, variety and that celebrates the Latin American Culture while also doing acting, modeling and music. Currently, I’m working on touring and other musical and theatrical projects with my husband, singer & songwriter Pete Molinari.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish it was smoother! But it was the other way around. Which I think that’s quite normal for us artists. I’ve some good luck but also some struggles on the road. The biggest struggle I find is to make the right connections with people that will open the right doors of opportunities. And in such a competitive city like Los Angeles, you have to be persistent and patient until you find the right team to collaborate with your vision and talent.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love to entertain and create! Dancing is what I am most known for. But I am a very versatile artist and I’ve performed in all types of different stages and productions including Circus, Cabaret, Burlesque, Music, Film, TV and theater. I am very proud of my clown/comedy work, choreography and productions I’ve done so far but deep inside I am mostly passionate about film & theater. Something that I am exploring more in the past years, including writing music and screenplays! Maybe is my versatility, circus family background and style is what set me apart from others.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’m all for risk taking even when fear is present. I don’t think you can get anywhere without taking risks. And it’s always worth it. Even if doesn’t take you where you wanted to be. Because there will always be lessons from choices you make for yourself. My first big risk was to leave my whole life and family behind to move to Los Angeles and try my luck here. Now I became an American citizen and living my dreams. Later I took another risk on leaving an unhealthy relationship behind with no money or nowhere to go. And now I am happily married to an incredibly talented and hard worker man. It was all worth it and I’m looking forward to taking more risks and adventures!!
