Daily Inspiration: Meet Meng Chu Huang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meng Chu Huang

Hi Meng Chu, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been passionate about art since I was in kindergarten. As a kid, I was completely drawn to painting and drawing, which led me to attend art school, where I spent years training to master realistic techniques. It was challenging because we practiced tirelessly, but it built the foundation for my love of art.

After middle school, I started to question my path. It may seem early, but at that age, we had to prepare for both art exams and SATs to enter high school. I made the decision to attend a regular high school instead of continuing with an art-focused curriculum. I was curious about experiencing life beyond constant art classes, exploring more academic subjects.

However, during high school, I quickly realized something was missing. I joined a dance club to stay connected to creativity and to find inspiration in a different form of expression, but I still felt the pull toward art and design.

When it came time to apply for college, I knew I wanted to pursue art and design professionally. Like many Asian parents, mine initially pushed for a more traditional path like business or management. But I was determined and convinced them that attending art school would provide not only creative fulfillment but also numerous opportunities in the industry.

Maybe it was fate, but the journey led me to where I am today—working on design that has the power to influence both the world and the culture I’ve always been immersed in. And that’s how I ended up here, fully committed to and passionate about the world of art and design.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Pursuing art has definitely not been a smooth journey for me. Throughout my time in art, especially after starting college, I faced a lot of doubt and questions. People would say things like, “Art won’t help you survive in the real world,” or “There are so many talented artists—how will you stand out and make it?” These kinds of comments have followed me throughout my journey, and when I first started college, I wasn’t sure how to respond to them.

I thought to myself, “Maybe I can’t be an artist, but I can be a designer.” I felt confident back then, but I quickly realized that being a designer comes with its own set of challenges. Even though I was trained as a designer, there were still moments where both outside voices and my own inner doubts would tell me to step outside of the bubble I had created for myself in school.

That’s when I decided to go to London as an exchange student. I wanted to see the world outside of my small circle, to meet other talented designers, and to avoid becoming like a “frog at the bottom of a well.” The experience was eye-opening—there are so many incredibly talented people out there that I had never imagined.

It was then that the seed of wanting to keep growing and absorbing new design skills took root in my mind. The biggest challenge for me has been fighting both the external voices of doubt and the internal ones questioning my abilities. It’s easy to feel like you’re never enough, and in a way, that’s true—creating good design is an ongoing journey of growth, continuous improvement, and honing your talent.

While my path as a designer hasn’t always been smooth and has been filled with struggles, I’ve continued to find my way through it. There have been times I’ve failed, but those failures have all been valuable experiences that have helped shape me into the designer I strive to be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently a branding designer and AI prototyper, specializing in brand strategy, identity design, graphic design, and AI product prototyping. What sets me apart is my diverse skill set—I’m not only a designer, but I also have a strong foundation in AI, business, and art. This unique combination of experiences allows me to approach design from multiple perspectives, ensuring my work is both innovative and relevant across different industries.

I’m most proud of my ability to stay at the intersection of design, technology, and business, always absorbing new trends and translating them into meaningful design solutions. My goal is to create designs that have a positive impact on both the world and the user experience, elevating everyday life through thoughtful and heartwarming design.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m never fully satisfied with where I am, as the pursuit of great design is a continuous journey. Becoming a great designer requires constant growth and the ability to absorb knowledge and ideas from the world around you. I am dedicated to learning from nature and drawing inspiration from talented designers worldwide to create designs that elevate societal standards of beauty.

Looking ahead, I aim to bring what I’ve learned back to Taiwan, contributing my skills and insights to the development of its culture and creative industries. For now, I’ll continue striving to create impactful designs for the world, just as I’ve been doing over the past few years.
