Daily Inspiration: Meet Leon Ramsey Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leon Ramsey Jr.

Leon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have known I had creative and intellectual passions since I was a kid. For me, it all started in grade school. I modeled in my first fashion show in elementary school, participated in academic competitions in middle school, and policy debate in high school. Creatives like Prince, Sterling Saint Jacques, and Little Richard inspired my creativity growing up, while intellectuals like Thurgood Marshall, W.E.B Du Bois, and James Baldwin influenced me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been easy in the slightest. Growing up, we were not the wealthiest. So there were moments when we had to make sacrifices. I watched my mother work 2-3 jobs to keep a roof over my family’s head. There were times we had no electricity and I had to stay with relatives until we figured things out. Eventually, I would do the same, in pursuit of my dreams. I’ve even slept on friends’ or relatives’ couches until I got my footing. In 2009, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Since then, every day has been a battle of discipline, resourcefulness, and tenacity.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Intellectually, I have been a Paralegal for almost 11 years. I began as an intern for a D.C.-based entertainment attorney. From there, I moved to Los Angeles where I worked for a few law firms that practiced Environmental/Land Use, Consumer Protection and Liability, and Business Litigation. I am a Litigation Paralegal known for my case management expertise and my overall knowledge of office management, electronic filings, and trial preparation.

Creatively, in 2022, I started LCR Management Services, LLC, a business offering various creative, paraprofessional, and freelance paralegal services. There are three divisions of services available: professional services ranging from document preparation and submission, nonprofit incorporation assistance, and research/writing; artistic/entertainment services ranging from content creation, modeling, and red carpet hosting; and creative services such as event coordination/production and floral arrangements. My business provides quality products and services to underserved communities of color for affordable prices.

Lastly, I am co-founder and Overseer of LB California Chapter, a nonprofit arts and culture organization better known as the Royal House of LaBeija – California Chapter. Established on November 20, 2022, we serve as a dynamic and family-oriented space in the Ballroom community that fosters the pursuit of excellence in all areas of life. I am most proud of the achievements our chapter has made since its inception; namely being honored by Mayor Karen Bass and the City of Los Angeles, as well as collaborating with prominent LGBT and Arts & Culture organizations.
