Daily Inspiration: Meet Khadijah Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khadijah Phillips.

Hi Khadijah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m excited for the opportunity to share my story. I am a wife and mother of 6 amazing children all unique in their own way. My journey to motherhood started at a young age so I had a lot of maturing to do. Along the way I’ve faced and have overcome many obstacles such as sexual assault, domestic violence, being married to an alcoholic struggling to make ends meet and more. As I move through life I am learning valuable life lessons that I am passionate to share with the world.  For most of my journey I felt alone with no real community or a safe space to share my story for fear of embarrassment or judgment.  Sharing our stories and experiences helps to shape the younger generation and encourages those around us who are fighting silent battles. Also, there are people waiting to help but if you don’t ask most often times you don’t receive

My children give me a run for my money… I have two children on the spectrum, a non binary child and others who face mental challenges daily (no fault of their own).  I’ve had to learn to help them manage through their life as well as deal with the stressors of mine. Saying it’s hard is an understatement but if I can get up everyday and push forward then I know anyone who is going through can do it as well.

If it wasn’t for my mother and my daughters I don’t know how I would make it daily, even though they don’t know my full story or my daily struggles they are always willing to help out.  It’s so imperative to have some sort of support system.  Community is everything.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not, lol.  The road has been rocky with plenty of bumps along the way but it’s helped to shape who I am as a mother, friend and business woman.

Obstacles and challenges teach us about ourselves. We learn strength and resiliency in dark times.  There have been money challenges, mental health challenges and difficulties communicating effectively with my children.  Raising autistic twins has been overwhelming which led me to create the autism mom club www.myautismmom.com to help take the strain off parents who are raising children on the spectrum.  We educate, provide free services like laundry, meals and cleaning services to help take some of the pressure off the parents.  We want to take some of the obstacles out of the way for others.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love podcasting to shed light on parents who are parenting on the spectrum. Having the tough conversations around parenting on the spectrum and being an entrepreneur. So our podcast mom~ish addresses those two dynamics as well as our autism mom club which helps parents maintain their sanity through providing laundry, cleaning and meal prep services to parents of children on the spectrum. We make this happen by way of donations and merch purposes through our websites. www.myautismmom.com.  We are set apart because our mission is based on community and genuine love.  We are not driven by financial gain for ourselves but for our community as a whole.

What does success mean to you?
Success is about building community and working together to create the life and the future we want for our families.  Spreading the message of hope and teaching how working together we can get further is the goal.

Also, for me personally I want to retire in a cabin in the mountains and have all my businesses run seamlessly.  Thank you for this interview.
