Daily Inspiration: Meet Karla Barrera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Barrera.

Hi Karla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into newborn and postpartum care began over 20 years ago, guided by both professional training and ancestral wisdom. From the very beginning, I felt a deep calling to support families during one of the most transformative seasons of their lives. Over time, that calling became my life’s work.

I started as a Newborn Care Specialist and Postpartum Doula, providing hands-on support for new parents, helping them navigate feeding, sleep, and the tender adjustments of welcoming a baby. Along the way, I pursued additional certifications—lactation education, infant massage, holistic postpartum practices, and more—because I believe every family deserves both evidence-based care and nurturing rooted in tradition.

In 2024, I brought my vision together under Intuitive Care Los Angeles. My mission has always been to bridge modern newborn care with the wisdom of our ancestors, creating a space where families feel supported, respected, and held. Today, I offer a wide range of services, from overnight newborn care to holistic postpartum healing—belly binding, rebozo therapy, herbal baths, womb healing massage, and Closing the Bones ceremonies.

What started as a personal calling has grown into a business built on trust, compassion, and intuition. I feel grateful to serve families not only in Los Angeles but also virtually, guiding them with knowledge, care, and heart. Every baby I hold, every mother I nurture, and every family I support reminds me why I chose this path: because caring for families is sacred work, and healing is meant to be shared.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. One of the biggest challenges has been helping families understand the importance of postpartum care before they are in the middle of it. Another has been finding ways to stand out in such a large and competitive city like Los Angeles. Building community connections, continuing my education, and staying true to my mission have been key to overcoming those challenges and growing my practice.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in newborn care and holistic postpartum support, blending over 20 years of professional experience with ancestral healing practices. Through Intuitive Care Los Angeles, I provide both daytime and overnight care, helping families with feeding, sleep, soothing, and the many adjustments that come with welcoming a baby.

What sets my work apart is the holistic approach. Alongside practical newborn care, I offer traditional postpartum practices such as belly binding, rebozo therapy, herbal baths, womb healing massage, and Closing the Bones ceremonies. These services honor both the physical recovery of the mother and the emotional, spiritual transition of the family.

I’m most proud of creating a space where families feel truly supported—where they don’t just receive professional care but also feel seen, nurtured, and respected. Many of my clients say that what stands out is my ability to bring calm, grounding energy into their homes while also offering expert guidance.

What makes my work unique is the balance between evidence-based knowledge and intuitive, ancestral wisdom. My goal is not just to care for the baby, but to help the entire family thrive.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is that families feel supported, respected, and nurtured during the postpartum journey. Welcoming a baby is one of the most transformative times in a family’s life, and I believe no one should go through it feeling alone or overwhelmed.

At the heart of my work is the belief that postpartum care is community care. When we support mothers and families, we strengthen generations to come.
