Today we’d like to introduce you to John Pinnacle Jones-Gailes.
Hi John Pinnacle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with becoming a dj in middle school when my father would work security at the Bergenfield skating rink and I wasn’t a good skater but music has always spoke to my spirit. All of the popular DJs at the time would work there and I was casually walk over to the booth and study them. From there it grew and as I went through HS and College I dived more into until my big break with my mentor DJ Evil Dee who took me under his wings.
And my legend grew from there as I rose to one of the prominent DJs in my area and then made it to NYC. I was able to learn so much about the industry from Evil Dee and studying the greats like Kid Capri, Jazzy Jeff, Funk Flex, DJ Camilo and more
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life is easy and working to become a top DJ has its ups and downs. From not getting paid your worth in the beginning and paying dues to you start seeing your popularity grow and politics, favoritism, jealousy and more play a part. You just have to learn how to navigate it all.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an international open-format DJ, MC, and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in entertainment and hospitality. I’ve been blessed to travel to 25 countries, performing aboard luxury cruise ships, at festivals, and exclusive events while working with major brands and industry professionals. What sets me apart is my versatility, ability to connect with diverse audiences, and passion for creating unforgettable experiences. I’m most proud of turning my passion into a global career while continuing to give back to my community and inspire others.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would say to put God first, believe in yourself and stay the course. Make sure you network and show your face. And continue to brand yourself to show you are marketable. Yet also don’t put yourself in a box. Make sure you’re able to place yourself in multiple lanes to grow.
