Today we’d like to introduce you to JoAnna Pallante.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up a New York City girl through and through. My family is rooted in the classic immigrant story—my father was born in Naples, Italy, and came to the United States by boat with his family in pursuit of opportunity and a better life. That work ethic and resilience shaped how I approached everything in my own life.
After college, I began a fast-paced career on Wall Street as a credit derivatives broker. While it was an incredible learning experience, the lifestyle was intense, and by the time I approached 30, I realized I wanted something different for my future. I made the bold decision to retire from Wall Street and pursue a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. I had invested in California real estate during the 2010 economic downturn and ultimately moved cross-country on my own to start a completely new chapter.
California quickly became home, and over time, I began building the life I had always envisioned. Along the way, I explored some childhood passions as well—earning my SAG card and dabbling in acting—before eventually getting my real estate license. Today, I work in luxury real estate with The Beverly Hills Estates, where I combine business and communication skills, entrepreneurship, and my love for helping people find their dream homes.
At the same time, my personal journey has evolved in meaningful ways. I’m currently expecting my second daughter through IVF, and becoming a mother later in life has deepened my passion for health, wellness, and resilience. Through my blog, InTheKnowJo.com, and my social media platforms, I share my experiences as a working mom and wellness advocate. My goal is to inspire other women to pursue their dreams unapologetically—whether that means reinventing their careers, prioritizing their health, or starting a family later in life. With the right mindset, support, and commitment to well-being, it’s always possible to design a life you love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all. The first five years of my life in Los Angeles were really about reinventing myself. I moved here alone from New York and had to build everything from scratch—authentic friendships, a community, and two completely new careers. Without a strong support system at the beginning, there were definitely moments that felt isolating. But those years taught me resilience and how to create the life I wanted.
I had always envisioned getting married and starting a family earlier in life, but that part of my story happened much later than I planned. Before the birth of my daughter Lily in 2022, I went through two miscarriages, which were incredibly difficult. Ultimately, IVF helped us bring Lily into the world, and that experience profoundly changed me.
Going through fertility challenges opened my eyes to how many families quietly struggle with the same journey. It became something I felt passionate about speaking openly about. Sharing what I learned—both the emotional and physical side of fertility—has become an important part of my platform and something I hope helps other women feel less alone.
At the same time, I transitioned from a steady paycheck career to an entrepreneurial lifestyle. That shift was another learning curve. Entrepreneurship requires constant reinvention, adaptability, and the ability to see opportunity even when the path isn’t always clear. But it’s also given me the freedom to build a life aligned with my values—family, wellness, and helping others pursue their dreams.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a licensed California Realtor since 2013 and have spent more than a decade working in some of Southern California’s most sought-after luxury markets. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some incredible teams, including time with The Oppenheim Group and the Altman Brothers of Million Dollar Listing. Today, I’m proud to be part of The Beverly Hills Estates, working with Branden and Rayni Williams, where I continue to represent exceptional properties and clients throughout markets ranging from Palm Springs to Newport Coast and Beverly Hills.
Throughout my career, I’ve closed over $130 million in sales, but what I’m most proud of is that much of my business comes from referrals and repeat clients. Relationships are everything in this industry, and the trust people place in me to guide them through some of their most important life investments means a great deal.
Another aspect that sets my work apart is the natural synergy between my real estate career and my husband’s company, Roman James Design Build, a luxury architectural and home building firm. Having direct insight into the design, development, and construction of real estate allows me to provide clients with a deeper perspective—whether they’re buying land, building a custom home, or evaluating a property’s long-term value.
Alongside real estate, I’ve also been building a lifestyle platform called InTheKnowJo.com. It started as a passion project but has grown into a space where I openly share my life experiences—from healthy recipes and wellness routines to my fertility journey, motherhood, and how I lost 50 pounds after pregnancy. I try to be an open book and share what I’ve learned along the way in hopes that it helps other women navigating similar stages of life.
Through my newsletter, blog, and social media platforms, I also collaborate with brands I genuinely believe in and share products and services that have made a meaningful impact in my own life.
At the end of the day, what I’m most proud of is building a career and platform that feels authentic to who I am.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My view on risk has always been rooted in taking thoughtful, calculated leaps rather than reckless ones.
One of the biggest risks I ever took was leaving a secure, high-paying job that I had held for five years and moving across the country with essentially nothing lined up. People always assume I moved for a boyfriend, but the truth is I moved completely on my own. I simply knew I wanted a different lifestyle.
The early days weren’t easy. I spent many lonely nights in my first two Los Angeles apartments wondering if I had made the right decision to start over in a new city without a built-in support system. But what kept me going was the quality of life I had come searching for—being outside in the sunshine, focusing on my health, and living closer to the ocean. After years of sitting behind a desk for ten hours a day, that shift in environment and lifestyle felt transformative.
Since then, I’ve continued to take calculated risks in other areas of my life and career. I’ve invested in building new businesses, which often means spending a lot of money long before you see any return. That can be daunting. But I believe if you approach risk thoughtfully—educate yourself, plan carefully, and avoid living beyond your means—you give yourself the runway to weather difficult periods.
Growing up in an immigrant family taught me the importance of saving and being financially disciplined. That mindset has stayed with me. It’s also why I’ve felt comfortable investing in real estate and the stock market during downturns, when others might feel fearful. Those moments can certainly come with some nerve-racking days, but if you’re constantly learning, reading, and listening to experts rather than chasing trends, you can make decisions with confidence.
Ultimately, I believe growth rarely happens without some level of risk. But when those risks are informed, intentional, and aligned with your long-term vision, they can lead to opportunities far greater than the comfort of staying where you started.
