Today we’d like to introduce you to FreXinet. They and their team shared their story with us below:
FreXinet is a lyricist, actor, and all-around entertainer. She was born in Minneapolis, MN on August 11, 1988, to a stylist and an on-air personality. At age three, her family moved to Alexandria, VA. At age eight, she moved to Michigan City, IN, and by age ten was living in Los Angeles, CA. When people ask where she is from she says, “From all over.”
One of her favorite things to do as a child was act and role-play. It was then her family learned she had a strong passion for performance art. Throughout her childhood and adolescence, she continued to perform in school plays, dance recitals, and talent shows. She also took up other art forms such as drawing, painting, origami, and writing.
In high school, she had the opportunity to join the cast of the eight-time NAACP Award-nominated show Ephraim’s Song (adapted to You Don’t Know Me) produced by Bruce Willis and Cedric the Entertainer. In this experience, she was able to gain encouragement and insight from professionals like Halle Berry, Michael Ealy, and Malik Yoba to name a few.
As a senior, she received the Actor of the Year Award from Manual Arts Senior High for her role as Dorothy in The Wiz. It was also in high school that she developed a liking for creative writing. Poetry as a school assignments sparked an interest in her that later filled many journals with poems, songs, and love letters. Her poetry morphed into spoken word, which later morphed into rap music.
In college, she majored in Theatre Arts and Dance. It was here she was able to hone the key components of live performance. In 2012, she received her bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles in that major. This took all her talents to new heights.
Her labor of love is her own outreach program: Performing to Save Lives (PTSL). She created this program to be a safe place for youth to hone skills that are rooted in Hip-Hop culture. Her lifelong goal is to create her own school that offers performing arts lessons to under-served youth.
FreXinet just starred her first feature film, “The Troll” co-starring Jevin Smith (@wealthy_jev on Instagram), and produced by the Dominique Becton Film & Acting Academy (@DBFAA_), which premiered at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, CA on October 13th. She is currently working on her EP and has released a single titled, “Long For You” available on all streaming platforms.
FreXinet continues to develop her overall artistic portfolio, as she searches for projects that challenge and maximize the talent she has to offer.
I have also started a company called Relax Yourself Cosmetics (@relaxyourselfcosmetics)! Our Head-to-Toe oil (our star product) is a combination of Jojoba, Avocado, Sweet Almond, Rosehip, Tea Tree, and Ylang Ylang oils to soothe and hydrate. Use it as a bath oil or as a massage oil for your loved one. You literally can use this oil from your head to your toes. We also offer a natural black soap and Indian Healing Clay masks! Check us out!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Over the years, I have had to battle housing insecurities, including homelessness (as a minor and an adult). I’ve also endured the financial struggles that sometimes come with living in Southern California. I currently have three jobs and a business to make things work financially.
I’ve also had to fight through self-esteem issues as a teenager. I felt I wasn’t pretty enough to pursue the things that made me happy like acting, singing, and dancing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an actor, singer, lyricist, and dancer. I specialize in musical theater. I was cast as Ronnette in the 2019 run of The Little Shop of Horrors at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica.
I am most proud of my first feature film, “The Troll” co-starring Jevin Smith (@wealthy_jev on Instagram), and produced by the Dominique Becton Film & Acting Academy (@DBFAA_), which premiered at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, CA on October 13th. It will be submitted to film festivals and is available to watch on YouTube.

Something that sets me apart from others is my exciting but laid-back personality that everyone seems to enjoy. Friends would describe me as fun-loving, energetic, and outgoing. To know me is to love me and that has been expressed time and time again. I believe it is because I am genuine and kind. I know who I am and WHOSE I am.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband Joseph Davis, III owner of Macaroni Joe with a Lil More, is by biggest supporter. We’ve been knowing each since 2008, and he always encourages me to pursue my dreams.
My mother and father Sonia and DonOvan Johnson have encouraged and supported my talents since a very young girl. They have told me to always chase after what I want in life and don’t let up.
High school teachers Simone Santiel, Katy Groskin, and Alberta Dawson guided me in dance/cheer and acting and other aspects of life during a very trying time in my life.
In college, Prof. Jose Cruz-Gonzales and Theresa Larkin helped me tap into my greatest potential as an actor, director, and as a creative in general.
Mentors Crystal and Glenn Glass of Glasshouse Production and Charles Douglass of the PALEF (Perf. Arts Life and Education Foundation) have provided me with opportunities to use my gifts time and time again.
Candace Nicholas-Lippman is my sister from another mister! As fellow creatives and teammates, we have been able to create some hilarious work over the years. She encourages me to stay at it and to never stop using the talent God has given me. We also have plans to make more content together in the near future.
