Daily Inspiration: Meet Emma Younan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Younan

Hi Emma, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started by going to film school to get an introduction to the industry. From there I met people who would hire me for shoots. Right now I’m transitioning from AC & PA work to getting my foot in the door as a writer. I recently also started doing stand-up comedy and it’s been really great.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Working on set in the lowest position can be really tough. People don’t always treat you as well as they should. And you don’t get to be creative or think for yourself, you just carry out orders all day. It’s really frustrating long-term, especially since my goal is to be a writer, not an AD or DP.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I mostly write comedy. I think it’s an underrated genre, most students or emerging writers focus on drama. Ironically, comedy should be taken more seriously. I’m currently working on a half-hour comedy pilot and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had writing, but it’s also a lot of work.
Something I’m really proud of is trying out stand-up comedy for the first time. I started this summer and I’ve been doing it ever since. Doing stand-up really compliments my writing. I think writing makes stand-up easier and vice versa.
