Daily Inspiration: Meet Emika Love

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emika Love

Hi Emika, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Music has always been my way of perseverance and happiness ever since a little, little girl. It always moved me (literally). I loved up tempo music that makes my whole body do a jiggy. I like to physically feel the music (which is possible). No matter what mood I was in I would always put a song on to either enhance that mood, or take me out that mood. Anywhere any time of the day I was always singing obnoxiously loud or listening to music full blast. I was definitely the loud sibling out of all my siblings. Getting noise complaints from everyone in my household but no one knew what an impact music had on my life. I didn’t even notice until I actually did it myself. I always knew I was going to be a big performer and be on stage Infront of everyone moving them in an impactful way but never full grasped it. As I was growing up I was huge into sports full rides for 3 different sports, All American, MVP, Varsity all 4 years so I focused heavy in sports and was prepping to take that to the stars but there was a reason for that. I worked so so so hard to get a full ride scholarship to college. Didn’t hang out with no one, no parties no nothing and that was all because I knew my family couldn’t pay for college. I never wanted my mom or anyone to feel guilty for anything in that realm so I made sure she knew that everything will be alright. Then one day my life switched. It changed. Some people say things don’t happen over night but this did for me. One day right before I was about to leave for college I said I’m going to be one of the biggest music stars in the world. I told my mom “hey I’m not going to go to college” and I never looked back since. I think for me it was being able to say I got what I’ve been working so hard for. Even though I didn’t take it, it was enough for me to be able to reassure her that I didn’t go to college because of me. Of course a decision like this everyone is going to call you “ crazy, and omg what, don’t you want to, what about, what if but that’s the difference. You have to be willing to put it all on the line make those big moves. In my most recent single “Beyond The Lights” this is the song that sums up this begging of this chapter. “YOU CAN GO BEYOND THE LIGHTS IF YOU WANT TO.” You can be what you want to be, you can see the light on the other side of the tunnel, you can do whatever you put your mind to and back that up with doing making decisions like this, no matter your background, where you come from, what your situation is, with discipline and risk “ You can go beyond the lights if you want to.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road and probably will never be. Some rocks, jumps, hills, break checks, swerves, turns, U- turns, oil leakage, the whole shebang it’s part of life and growing. You have to be resilient, disciplined, and adaptable. Some of the struggles I’ve faced is having to move from my family, financial situations at times, lots of relationships that came to an end, losses, finding the right people that are going to support and love you at the bad times, but honestly we all go through something. We got to tighten up are boot straps and get to clicking.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist in all forms. Singer, songwriter, fashionista, director, actress, designer, painter, and more. The main thing that I do though is I am a singer songwriter that mixes different genres into one making people feel empowered within themselves and making them feel my music physically (dance, head bob, you name it). I am most proud of who I am as a person. Nothing matters if you’re a rotten person, that’s the way I was raised and that’s what I go by. I’m super thankful and I’m super excited to who I’m about to become. I have many things I’m going to do for my people and for the Empire so just excited and thankful and honestly can’t wait to show the world who Emika Love is.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
There’s no luck everything happens the way it’s supposed to happens.
