Personally, she is a chosen parent to a special child Visharda who is diagnosed on Autism spectrum disorder. An autism activist, she is a strong believer of the fact “Be the change you wish to see in the society”. Her motto in life is to create awareness about Autism and ensure that all the special children can lead a life with dignity. She strives to make the world understand that Autism is not synonymous to intellectual disability and working relentlessly to increase the acceptance of special children in the society. She has also started an initiative by the name of “ Samvednayein” with a three-pronged focus- Acceptance, awareness and rehabilitation of autistic children. Under the umbrella of Samvednayein, she organizes talent shows for special children to provide them a platform to showcase their talents absolutely free of any charge. Inspired by the struggles of her daughter, she is coming up with a movie titled “Visharda” with the purpose of building an inclusive society and spreading awareness about Autism spectrum disorder. The movie revolves around the life and challenges of an autistic child.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am a mother to a special child Visharda. My focus is required on multiple fronts. I have to ensure good mental health. I have not been fortunate to have good societal and peer support for my ventures.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Professor of Finance. I am also an Actor and an international model. I am also an autism advocate. I am also a multiple beauty pageant title holder. I am also a mother of a special child Visharda who is on Autism Spectrum disorder. I am a person with diverse background and good at multitasking My strengths are my communication skills, Onstage presence and confidence, rich education background, agility and capability to grasp new things. My biggest strength is empathy and compassion. My experiences have made me a better person. People will forget what you did, People will forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel. Therefore, always empathize with others as we never know what kind of battle someone is fighting.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is being yourself. It’s the ability and freedom to do what you want to pursue in life against all the odds and challenges. One can get success but the bigger challenge is how you handle success. “The best view comes after the hardest climb”. So never give up until you succeed.
