Daily Inspiration: Meet Destinee Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destinee Richardson.

Hi Destinee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the San Fernando valley specifically Pacoima. My father owns the Icon barbershops, so a lot of my childhood consisted of watching my dad get up and relentlessly hustle 7 days a week.

I started doing lashes in 2018 after being fired from my 9-5, I just thought it could be something I was good at & wanted to try it out. Surprisingly, lashes ended up being something I’m extremely passionate about.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all! I’ve definitely had to learn how to be resilient. A full set used to take me 6 hours & it looked terrible. There were so many things that I had lack of knowledge of due to lack of experience.

In the beginning, I contemplated quitting lashes & working a 9-5 again especially due to the fact I am a single mother & having to provide.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a cosmetologist who specializes in lashes.

I am certified in classic, volume, & MEGA VOLUME lashes. I am known for creating beautiful lash sets with amazing retention & styling. I am most proud of being able to carry on my father’s “icon” legacy in my own way instead of riding his wave in the valley.

I think what sets me apart from others the most is that I have a tunnel vision when it comes to my goals and my art paired with an insane work ethic. I am always looking for ways to adapt & push myself to the next level.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that the valley is so diverse, it’s a melting pot of LA culture with a suburban twist.

My least favorite part would have to be the rent… lol.
