Daily Inspiration: Meet Danielle And Sarah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle And Sarah.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The Safe Space Community was founded in May of 2024. In that time,The Safe Space Community has provided numerous free healing workshops, community events and educational seminars such as soundbaths, nutrition education, support groups, vendor showcases, clothing swaps, drug and alcohol free music nights, creative workshops, self defense classes, and more.

In September of 2025, The Safe Space acquired a yoga studio (Yoga Jones) and we are now running comprehensive movement and wellness classes. The studio provides breathwork, meditation, yoga, self defense, and strength and fitness classes, and mental health tailored activities offered through low priced memberships and fair priced drop in rates. Every weekday night we provide a free or donation based activity such as yoga for depression, sound baths, music nights, recovery meetings, and candlelight yoga. We provide free weekend community events such as book and clothing swaps, paint and plant nights, wellness events, and vendor events.

Founder Sarah Zelmen, a local entrepreneur and healer offering nervous system massage and sound healing has seen and felt the benefits of a healing community that embraces everyone. Sarah teamed up with Dr Danielle Marie Nishida who has over a decade of experience providing therapy while owning, operating, and managing a business and nonprofit.

Sarah and Danielle have provided countless offerings and safe spaces to help and bring people together in the community for approximately 5 years. These two like – minded individuals aim to take the connections they have made and professional experience to the next level and expand the community center so more people can have a safe space to learn, grow, and flourish.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life comes with struggles as does opening and running a business, even if it is the business of your dreams! We are lucky to have had our previous struggles be met with opportunity. For example, we were doing pop up events at local business, parks and beaches and then in September we met our goal of acquiring a space. We now operate a local yoga studio and have added more classes, events, and community based opportunities.

Financial struggles remain, but we are happy to have a supportive community of volunteers and board members that offer their time, their expertise, and their heart into The Safe Space Community.

We hope to acquire grants in order to alleviate financial stress and also to offer more community events and wellness opportunities to our community.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
We take risks everyday! We are vulnerable, open and welcoming to all. This presents certain risks that we are happy to take as we believe that being all inclusive and available to all walks of life, age, sex, gender, orientation or ability is necessary in this world.

We see risk as necessary. We will not go anywhere living in fear and not taking a step toward that which is unknown or scary. When we take risks, we show ourselves that we have courage and are capable of making hard choices. Risks create opportunity!
