Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Celozzi
Hi Christine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Short story: I worked a 9-5, I was young, miserable, and knew I wanted more. With no path, barely any money in my bank account, and hanging on to what felt like my last miracle, I moved to LA 8 years ago thinking life would unfold.
It did not, I do not recommend that route to anyone.
Since coming out to LA, I’ve realized the importance of having a plan. This isn’t an industry you can necessarily plan for, but there are things you can plan and steps you can take that help you get ahead and position yourself for success when the opportunities arrive. Getting to where I am today took a lot of failure, analyzing my decisions, and learning to make better ones. Learning to take my career into my own hands and knowing that the calvary isn’t coming. I had to be the calvary.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, it’s a road now. But before it was a road, it was a forest, one without any trails. I had to dig and move rocks and build a path and pave it, and now it’s a road looking back. I’m still, every day, out there, shoveling out the road I’m moving down. It’s a slow process, there are always things that take a little bit more time to clear out, but every step forward is one more step.
I think the largest struggle I had was becoming an adult and realizing that no one was going to make this road for me. I’ve been grateful to have people come out and help me build, and help me pave, but ultimately I had to be the one out there every day, giving direction, taking direction, coming up with plans and ideas, allowing myself to be taught a better way to pave, teaching those better ideas, etc. And if I wasn’t out there, then no one was. I think that’s the biggest lesson, is learning to pave your own road while allowing others to help you in the best ways they’re willing to. Not getting discouraged on the days you’re out there on your own, knowing eventually more people will show up on the days they can.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an actress and director known for making absurd comedies.
The thing I’m most proud of is finding a brand that was uniquely my own, and I have so many wonderful people in my life who I can thank for pushing me to pursue that avenue. I have 4 directing projects under my belt, I’ve written all of them and acted in all of them. And this past year I started my own production company, Gremlin Express, so I can help others realize their genre projects as well.
My upcoming directing project, Frankslist, is probably my biggest risk yet, and I’m so excited to share it with the world.
How do you think about luck?
I think we make our own luck. Any time I’ve been lucky enough to be lucky, there were conversations and plans that were already in motion, and by the time luck presented itself I was ready for it.
