Daily Inspiration: Meet Barbie Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbie Beach.

Hi Barbie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been fascinated by people with great personal style. The ones who walk into a room and tell you exactly who they are without saying a word. Fashion has never just been about clothes to me. It’s about identity, culture, confidence, and the stories we tell through what we wear. That curiosity led me into a career in fashion marketing, creative direction, and brand partnerships, where I’ve spent the last two decades bringing brands to life through campaigns, collaborations, retail experiences, and storytelling. The brands that stand out aren’t just selling a product. They have a personality, a point of view, and a community that genuinely wants to be part of what they’re building.

Early in my career, I worked with Emmy Award-winning costume designer Patricia Field, which completely changed the way I think about creativity and business. It taught me to trust bold ideas and not worry about fitting into someone else’s definition of good taste. Later, as Senior Manager of Marketing & Brand Partnerships at What Goes Around Comes Around, I developed a deep appreciation for luxury vintage, iconic fashion houses, and the craftsmanship behind ready-to-wear and accessories. Those experiences shaped the way I approach creative strategy today.

My career has had plenty of unexpected turns, and I wouldn’t change them. Every pivot has taught me something valuable about resilience, trusting my instincts, and being intentional about the people and brands I want to work with. Right now, I’m excited to keep building work that blends creativity with strategy while supporting emerging brands, diverse voices, and people with big ideas. If something sparks curiosity, starts a conversation, or makes someone feel seen, I know it’s doing its job.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey hasn’t been without obstacles. I’m a Black woman with an alternative look who has built a career in this industry, an industry where I haven’t always fit the traditional mold. There will always be moments when I’ve had to work harder to make my ideas, perspective, and value recognized.

I’ve also experienced situations where I’ve developed original creative plans and concepts that were later significantly changed or echoed elsewhere. Rather than letting those experiences discourage me, they taught me to trust my instincts, protect my creative perspective, and keep pushing forward even when others didn’t immediately see the vision.

I’ve learned that self-confidence can make some people uncomfortable, but I’ve never wanted to shrink myself to make a room more comfortable. I know what I bring to the table, and I also know how to lead with humility, collaboration, and respect. Every challenge has ultimately made me more resourceful, more strategic, and more determined to create opportunities for myself and others.

My philosophy is, when life gives you lemons, you turn into Martha Stewart and make the best damn lemonade you can.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a brand marketing and creative strategist who helps brands turn their vision into compelling stories, experiences, and growth strategies. After years working across luxury fashion, PR, entertainment, partnerships, events, and experiential marketing, I’m entering a new chapter as a freelancer and consultant, using that experience to help brands bring their ideas to life.

A meaningful part of my creative foundation came from working with Patricia Field early in my career. Being around someone who celebrated individuality so unapologetically taught me to trust my instincts, embrace a strong point of view, and never be afraid to do things differently.

I specialize in connecting strategy and creativity, whether that’s developing a marketing plan, shaping a brand identity, creating campaigns, producing events, or building meaningful partnerships. What sets me apart is that I don’t believe every brand should look or feel the same. I’m passionate about helping brands embrace their individuality, find their voice, and grow authentically.

I’m proud to now use everything I’ve learned to support other people’s dreams and help their brands become everything they envision.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I actually have two childhood memories that really stand out because, in many ways, they shaped who I am today.

When I was little, I loved watching my mom get ready for work. She would sit at her vanity, doing her makeup so elegantly, sipping coffee, listening to Teena Marie. She had given me her freckles, and watching this beautiful woman get ready every morning felt like watching a model in a magazine. Every once in a while, she’d let me have a tiny sip of her coffee, which I thought was the height of sophistication. I remember thinking, one day, I want to have my own life, my own vanity, my own beautiful little rituals. She showed me what it looked like to carry yourself with grace and work hard for the life you want.

My other favorite memory comes from my father, who is an artist and was part of a prestigious group of African-American artists in Roxbury, Massachusetts. They would host these incredible exhibitions featuring artists from across the diaspora. I would help by walking around with little plates of cheese and grapes for the guests, who, in my child’s imagination, looked like kings and queens. Of course, I was also secretly shoving food into my mouth as I served them. In my mind, I wasn’t really a server. I was a princess playing a role in some grand production.

Looking back, it makes perfect sense that I ended up in marketing, fashion, and events. I grew up watching my mother create beauty in the everyday and my father create art and community. I think I’ve been producing experiences and living in a little bit of my own fantasy ever since.
