Daily Inspiration: Meet Alina Gevorgian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alina Gevorgian.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts at a very young age. According to my family, I was always singing—making up songs, humming melodies, and coming up with random lyrics all day long. It didn’t take long for my parents to realize that music was a natural part of who I was, and they decided to support that path.

I began taking piano lessons at the age of four and joined a children’s choir around the same time, which I absolutely loved. When I was seven, I was accepted into the Children’s School of Arts named after E. Mravinsky in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where I studied piano for seven wonderful years. I have such warm memories of that time—it was truly foundational for me.

At 14, I entered a music and pedagogy college and spent four years studying choral conducting. But soon after, I felt a strong pull toward singing and shifted my focus, enrolling in the University of Culture and Arts to study pop and jazz vocals. That’s where my love for contemporary music really blossomed.

Teaching always came naturally to me. Even during my university years, I had a sense that I’d eventually become a vocal coach. After graduating, my own vocal teacher invited me to train under him and work alongside him—he believed in my potential to teach and helped guide me onto this path.

I’ve now been teaching voice for over 15 years. Along the way, I’ve continuously refined my method—studying new techniques, taking advanced courses, and evaluating my own approach. I can honestly say that teaching never feels like work to me; it’s an extension of who I am. I truly love what I do.

I moved to Los Angeles in 2017 and began teaching vocals right away. Since then, I’ve slowly built a community of talented, passionate singers and musicians. I’ve coached over 500 people from around the world—helping them transform their voices and achieve their goals. Whether it’s becoming a karaoke star or preparing for talent shows like The Voice or American Idol, I always tailor my approach to bring out the best in each student. Watching their growth is the most rewarding part of what I do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has definitely had its share of challenges—beautiful ones, though, that helped shape me both as an artist and as a person.

Moving from Russia to the United States in 2017 was a major turning point, I had to start from scratch, starting from the new language. I didn’t have a network, a studio, or even a clear idea of where to begin. I knew I had a passion for teaching and a method that truly helped singers, but building trust in a new place takes time. It was really hard sometimes. But slowly, through word of mouth and one-on-one connections, I began to grow my community here in Los Angeles.
And like many creatives, of course I’ve faced moments of self-doubt. But every time a student tells me that their voice has changed, that they feel more confident, or that they finally reached a note they’ve been chasing for years—it reminds me my purpose. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but it’s been meaningful, and as I said before, every step has brought me closer to the teacher I am today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a vocal coach based in Los Angeles, and I specialize in helping singers unlock their full vocal potential—whether they’re complete beginners or professional artists.
I work with performers preparing for auditions, singers recording albums, touring artists who need support on the road, and even those who just want to sing confidently at karaoke.
My approach is rooted in a deep understanding of vocal technique, but also in really listening to each student’s voice, goals, and personality. I teach contemporary styles, helping singers build strong, healthy technique while developing their unique sound and artistic identity.

Over the past 15+ years, I’ve developed a method that truly gets results! And yes, I focus a lot on breath support, vocal freedom, and all the tools that make singing feel natural and powerful. I’m most proud of how many of my students have experienced real breakthroughs: discovering range they didn’t know they had, singing with more confidence, or even landing opportunities on shows like The Voice or American Idol. I’m also proud of those who have released their first album—or are already working on their tenth.

What sets me apart, I believe, is the way I connect with my students. I’m not just teaching notes or exercises—I’m helping them find their voice, in every sense of the word. I create a space that feels safe, encouraging, and deeply personal.
Private vocal lessons are incredibly intimate. I often say that when someone steps into the studio, it’s like they’re getting emotionally “naked” in front of you. That’s why it’s so important to find the right, individual approach for each person.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be patient and stay consistent! Progress doesn’t always feel like a straight line, especially in singing, some days you’ll feel great, and other days, not so much. That’s normal. Just trust the process keep going.

Also don’t compare yourself to others – your voice is unique, and that’s your power. Focus on opening up your uniqueness.
And if you can, find a vocal coach who can lead you on your singing journey. That support can change everything.
