Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexey Boyko
Hi Alexey , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my career when I was a student in 2015. When I moved to Irkutsk (Siberia) I met a lot of guys who had been already tattooing. When I was a student I had friends who had already been tattooing for a few years. At first it was an interest to get tattoos, but the more tattoos I got on my body, the more I started to think about my personal career in this culture. Now I’ve been tattooing for 7 years and I can’t imagine myself without it anymore
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t an easy process. I didn’t know for a long time what exactly I wanted to do, what style would be a part of me.
I did all styles from old-school to realism and only after 5 years of tattooing I realized that ornaments inspired by my hometown were the way to go!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My inspiration comes from the history of the northern peoples. From their traditions and folk art. I am not sure of the name of my style because I combined several styles such as dark lettering, national northern ornament and traditional ornament in the understanding of tattooing. I can call it as Dark movement tattoo. It’s not really a style, more like a new movement in tattoo culture.
What I am most proud of is that I have managed to overcome the difficulties and obstacles on the way and achieve the goals I set every time. I have been able to meet many interesting people through my work and gain new experiences
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
It was a difficult period. That year I spent at home in Russia, St. Petersburg. Like all the first few months I sat at home and didn’t know what to expect next. I realized that I should value my loved ones and not neglect time with them in any way
