Corey Dissin of Mission Viejo on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Corey Dissin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Corey , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Being a world-class entrepreneur requires a world-class routine — and mine runs like clockwork. You could set your watch by it.

I’m up at 4:30 AM. Bed made. Dishes done. Laundry folded and put away. By 5:00 AM, I’m at the gym for fasted cardio. 6:00 AM is four glasses of water and black coffee, followed by my first social media post and clearing out emails, texts, and DMs. Breakfast is oatmeal with blueberries and almond butter, plus egg whites and avocado.

By 8:00–8:30 AM, it’s workout number two. I’m back in the office by 10:30 AM, second post up, and client calls or appointments booked from 11:00–2:30 — with a quick, healthy lunch in the mix. After 2:30 PM? That’s my time. Whatever the F I want until I’m in bed by 8:30–9:00 PM.

I know that’s more than the first 90 minutes, but the point is this: my daily “can’t miss” rhythm creates a rinse-and-repeat pattern of accomplishment. It’s that momentum that fuels my productivity and sets me up to execute — no matter what the rest of the day throws at me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Corey Dissin—high-performance coach, brand builder, and the guy who helps you stop making excuses and start getting results. After 30+ years in media and production, I built a no-fluff coaching business for entrepreneurs and creatives who are tired of overthinking and ready to execute.

I don’t do hype. I do discipline, accountability, and strategy that actually works. I’ll help you get clear on your message, tighten your brand, and create rinse-and-repeat systems so you can grow without drowning in chaos.

I wrote Going the DISS-tance to give people a straight-up blueprint for showing up, staying consistent, and punching through plateaus. My job? Help you simplify, lock in, and go get it.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
It started with my parents. My father had a relentless work ethic — the kind where he was never late. In fact, he was always at least an hour early. My mother drilled into me the power of self-reliance and independence. Those two traits became the foundation for performing at a high level without needing anyone to light a fire under me.

Then there were my two high school baseball coaches. The discipline, accountability, and mental toughness they demanded on the field carried straight into the workplace — and eventually, the boardroom. The environments were different, but the rules for winning were the same.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Stop chasing the shiny stuff. The cars, the houses, the status symbols—they’re distractions. Instead, focus on the freedom that money can create. I didn’t fully grasp that until I was well into my 30s. The most valuable currency isn’t in your bank account—it’s QTL: Quality Time Left. Protect it, spend it wisely, and make sure it’s invested in the people and experiences that actually matter.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I’ve got to push back on that premise—because the more foundational the truth, the more I make noise about it. Hard work. Sweat equity. Loyalty. DISS-ipline. These aren’t quiet beliefs; they’re front and center in everything I do and teach. If it’s worth building your life on, it’s worth saying out loud—over and over again.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
This one feels like I’m writing my own epitaph — and I’m good with that. Loyal husband. Proud father. Hardest worker you’ll ever meet.
