Conversations with Valentina Mami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valentina Mami.

Valentina Mami

Hi Valentina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up with my parents in the entertainment world so I was introduced to this world early on, but it wasn’t until I was in high school I found a passion for music. I started battle rapping for for fun with friends at the Venice skate park, I recorded some songs with YouTube beats and put them on Soundcloud; it wasn’t until I got recruited to be in a girl group and from there I gained a lot of experience and learned how the music game worked. Eventually, the group split up, and I released music independently. I did two years at the Musicians Institute to learn about theory and further my music knowledge. I edit, direct, produce my own music videos, and I also like recording myself and play a big part in mixing the music. I like to do creative release plans and enjoy releasing music!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been as smooth as I wanted, but I learned working hard and persevering is the way to get ahead. A lot of people make fake promises in this industry and you’ll get let down a lot but you have yourself at the end of the day. It also takes a lot of sleepless nights, investments, and blind faith.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started as fully focused on being a female rapper and mostly in Spanish but I trained my singing and found a love for it. So I’m that first and I’ve been dancing since I was a kid so dancing has always been a part of my life. I’ve written most of my songs, and I really like editing my own music videos and content.

How do you think about happiness?
I think I’m still getting to know myself, right. Now I’m in a place where just existing makes me happy, whereas before success and recognition for my efforts made me happy but now I am happy just to be alive. My family and my friends make me happy.
